Will a 1000cc be enough? I don't really want bigger because it may be a bit too powerful for my first car. I might not be going rwd currently because I know I will get pulled over too much for drifiting.

honestly i'd stick with a standard 1.0 or something for now and make a track warrior if you're after power. then maybe when you've got a couple of years of driving under your belt and some no claims, think about putting it on the road.

So this is a 16yo looking to do his first car. The G60 engine previously chopped into his Polo was supercharged so insurance was high. So he wants to put a bike engine in, to appease insurance. Because of the torque. Even though bike engines have no torque, and have to be used in anger to give their power.

i looked in to this for my 6n before i settled on a 16v conversion.

there's a few problems with bike engines that become apparent only when fitted into a heavy car shell.

1. transmission, the gear box is made as light and small as possible to aid handling but this weight and size reduction reduces it's strength in comparison to a car gearbox, which on a bike it's not a problem as the maximum weight it's designed to haul is the bike plus a rider and passenger say 350kg max, the bare shell alone weighs more than that.

2. drivability, given the extra weight and wind resistance a car has, the engine will have to be revved more and longer due to lack of torque and you'd need to change gear a lot more often. also the fuel economy will be shite, expect teens or low 20s

3. durability, given the major increase in strain on the engine and transmission expect rebuilds and component failure a lot more often than what would be expected of a car engine of bigger capacity and similar power output.

bike engined cars are fine as a second car or a track car but as a daily it's too much.

tbh given the high maintenance requirements and cost it would have to be something you really want rather than anything to do with money.

i doubt it would be less to insure than a g40 or g60 conversion.

Bike engines do work in cars, but just because bikes are fast it doesn't mean that's reflected.

They're often a lot closer to limits than car engines, some just arnt as durable.

I know of some development engines blowing themselves to pieces just with making an extra couple of HP from colder denser air on test beds. Obviously this is development but it's worth noting for the extra strains of pulling a heavy car along. Not saying all are shit. You can strap turbo's on some.

Ahh, maybE more lacking final setup specs for suspension and thaT then, does look very arse down (front end high) do you know what they use? I've done QUICK a google and cant find anything, the setup seems very handy for my mini pickup, front mounted RWD. Suzuki carry/beford rascal running gear maybe.

Yeah bikes are normally chain driven unless you get a bigger bike engine eg honda vmax which is propshaft driven ..

i haven't seen many front bike engined rwd cars so would be intrested to see how the powers to the rear wheels :)

Mini lot use diffs with a ring gear welded on for the chain, cosworth seems to ring a bell for diff also with ford driveshafts? but thats mini.... Usually rear engined RWD

They remove the front sproket and fit a prop shaft to the output shaft on the box which runs to the rear diff, a transfer box would normally be mounted somewhere between the gear box and the diff too to give reverse gears when needed. Not much different to the usual front engine rwd layout in cars tbh

Well seeing their main product is a bike engine conversion kit I thought was a bit relavence and some advice may not just be coming from my imagination lol :)
