Hi All,

I'm wanting to fit 2 cameras to my car, for evidential purposes (you've probably seen the vids on youtube of russians crashing epically) one forward facing, and one rear facing.

I've already found the front facing camera i want to use and will find the rear-facing one myself.

My question is - I currently have a head unit with DAB which works perfectly for what i need but need a screen (or a cheap headunit with a screen) so that i can use the rear camera as a reversing camera too. The wiring won't really be a problem, just needs memory live, switched live and a ground which i can pick up from the existing head unit.

Can anyone recommend a screen / headunit with screen that i could use for this. only needs to be cheap as it's only use will be to show a live feed from the camera, it won't be playing DVD's or anything. It can't be one with a pop out screen as it would either cover my heating controls, or my main head unit. A stand alone screen would be perfect, but I can't seem to find the screen size it would need to be to fit into my single DIN tray.

Good luck on that one!! Never seen that before.

I've seen them, just the screens tiny so good luck with the reverse camera..... Then again you could just turn your head or look in your mirror.

It'll also be used to quickly review the footage / initial setup, not just as a reverse camera

A rear-view mirror with built in screen might be a better option and have a bigger screen...?

Because I spent quite a bit on my existing head unit and wouldn't get enough from selling it to afford an all-in-one solution, so a bodge will have to do for now...

If that's the only feasible way then that's what i'll have to do, but I'd prefer to avoid it for now

The Ripspeed DVD ones had video in and two vid out ports and a 3.5" screen for viewing

What would you use as a recorder? as i dont know of any HU with record functions.

Could use a Go Pro? or buy one of those standalone crash evidence camera units.

The cameras I'm looking at have micro-SD card slots and record directly to that

Thy can show live feed through RCA and store to SD card

The front facing camera will likely be the v1000gs (some info if you google it)

Have you got any info / a link to the ripspeed one?

Do I also get an additional 5bhp for installing a ripspeed item? Lol

Just had a look at this and it seems more than adequate, but it's a tad pricey. Like I say, it'll only ever be used as a screen so don't need usb or anything like that

I ran a high power night vision camera mounted to a Ripspeed one i had and despite the screen size it was nicely viewable on camera and DVD.

To make the screen stay on, would I just ground the handbrake wire so it thinks the car always has handbrake on?

ye. or there is an option in the menu to switch off "park" mode.

There is also a reverse wire which turns the screen over to the camera automatically when its powered.

I have seen a rear view mirror screen before

It is literally the size and shape of a standard rear view mirror but its a screen for a rear camera for like vans etc basically I was going to run one myself but not van paneling my bready now

Oh! I've seen the single DIN head units with the tiny screen on! I thought u wanted a screen the same size as a single DIN slot - as in not head unit just screen! Just surf eBay you'll find loads in no time!

But obviously would be better off with double DIN. IF you do get a double DIN don't rest the screen on your gear stick when fitting like I did and now have no function of the fkin touch screen at all!!!

I could get a windscreen mounted screen but I want it to look discrete

If you have a look at the link I gave for the camera, it attaches just like a satnav - it has a sucker on it. I'll be fitting a sun strip after my mot which will hide it all and the lens will be just below the level of the strip so it would be difficult to see from the outside. As for the rear camera, I'm not too sure yet how I'd mount that.
