ok guys, the car is an N reg 1.6 petrol 6N polo, the centra llocking was working fine the other day then I went to open the car on the fob and nothing, not even a peep from the pump.

I've had a look at the pump in the boot and all is dry, but very dead, I dont even know if power is getting to it as I havnt mananged to locate which fuse or relay runs the central locking pump, has anyone any ideas on which one it is.

I can open the drivers door on the key no problems, but the passenger side seems to be jammed, I can get the key all the way in but it wont turn in either direction so I'm not going to force it as I only have the one key for the car.

Also the boot lock I can only put the key in arounf three quarters of the way before it just stops dead, I've wd40 the locks to try and free them up but to no avail.

I didnt realise the locks were in such a bad way, thats the trouble with using the central locking all the time.

When you lift or push down any of the door knobs they only activate the locks on that door, not as id hoped the others, atleast that way i would know the pump was knackered.

I know last year during the cold snap the central locking packed up, well it wouldnt open the locks but the pump could be heard working.

so peeps has anyone any ideas before I start to strip things down blindly.

Are you sure that the door locks haven't simply frozen?

From memory, the live feed to the pump is red with a white tracer - if that is any help.

Thanks for the info my friend, sorry I havnt replied sooner, been away, anyway I will look at the fuse tommorow and get back to you, the door locks arent frozen, but the drivers door need loads of wd40 to free it up, the passenger door the key wont turn at all, no matter how much wd40 is squirted in all directions, and as I only have 1 key I'm loath to put too much pressure on the key to turn the lock.

As for the boot, well the key goes in about three quarters of the way then stops dead, its like a wall in the lock, I've tried even more wd40 in the lock and feeding the key in trying to push the pins of the lock back, but there is a deffinate blockage in the barrel.

just goes to show how much we rely on central locking and forget about manually operating the locks to keep them freed up.
