I'm trying to light weight my polo 6n as much as possible. Can anyone think of anything obvious I've missed. I don't think i have but worth a check anyway.

I've took the full interior out (minus dash) and replaced the seats with one 7kg drivers side seat. I've got poly carbonate windows through out except for the front screen. Its got fibreglass bonnet and tailgate. The wings don't hardly weigh anything and their welded in anyway so can't remove them lol. I've took the sound proofing and everything out.

what about swapping the mirrors for lightweight motorbike ones?

Haha, hole saw would kill the strength wouldn't it? I know people do it but is it safe? I'm also trying to keep the look of the polo the same from the outside or bike mirrors would have been a good option.

Lightweight wheels if you find some that you like the look of. Unsprung weight (anything not resting on the suspension) is the killer.

holesaw doesnt lose you strength if you do it strategically and flare the holes afterwards to put the strength back inim doing this with mine

pete, i doubt strength will be an issue with yours.... could probably send it to afghan the amount of bracing in that thing

gut the doors,

boot and bonnet covered

Carbon fibre roof skin

racing fuel cell

lose the spare wheel,jack etc

Hole saw and remove extra weight from panels, look into where the forces act.

lightweight bottom arms, track rods, hubs, brake carriers,

racing steering wheel and boss

Rear discs instead of drums

remove rear wheel well, and replaced with swaged sheet.

smaller washer bottle

Alloy engine block

lightweight rear axle set up

remember there is nothing lighter than a hole.

Pretty much is, cut holes + swage them.

Lighten doors, bin regulators off, chop bits out of loom you don't need, sound deadening, underseal, light wheels, no paint haha

lightweight motorsport battery.

drill some holes in the bumpers.

the old school tuners were shit hot at lightening the clutch covers of the A-series engine from a mini. drill out, but not through so no shit would get inside the clutch. they are a work of art IMHO

ligten the gearbox case and rocker cover.

Everything can be 1g lighter.

Fill the tyres with helium instead of air

Drill holes in your tyres, just make sure you swage them afterwards so you don't weaken them.

Haha. Ye heliums a good shout.

Can't really drill engine components but ye every g's a saving.

Sweet, think that will be my next job then, drilling holes everywhere and flaring them lol.

I made that mistake once. Aluminium is good stuff, but it's not really up to the job of a cylinder block for anything but a shopping trolley imo..

first what are you building the car for ?? road ? track ? drag strip ?

just noteiced it still has passanger seatbelt fitted remove it

remove the dash and heater blower just fit the clocks onley

bin the rubber top caps on top of the rear suspension turrets

remove interior rear view mirror

small lightweight motorcycle wing mirrors (they also help with aerodynamics )

i cant see if it has a headlineing ? remove it

fit rear discs instead of drums

remove fuel tank and fit a small lightweight fuel cell

remove power steering rack pump and fit a manual one

remove wipers wiper motors windscreen washer bottle and interior stalk

remove passanger doorhandle and weld a plate over it

carbon fibre roof skin minus sunroof and many other panels

fibreglass door skins atleast and may as well do the front wings

remove full wireing loom and cut out all wireing not required

remove and bin the startermotor and wireing just park at the top of BIG hills

also without startermotor you onley need a small battery

or could remove the alternator and charge the battery up at the end of each drag race

umm remove front headlights and weld steal plates over them just drive in the day onley

i dont no the laws on no headlights horn or front wiper washer on the road tho
