So I got a CD Changer out of a polo in a breakers yard, wanted to put it in my tdi 6n2 since the head unit has the light for it and was just wondering where the wiring for it goes?

I was hoping it was just plug and play like my dads Mondeo, but its not, the wiring isn't there, that I can see?

So my question is where does it go, because it goes right behind the back of the dash and not straight to the head unit as I'd imagine...

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Are you talking about the in-dash CD or the boot mount? Both have a similar cable just differing in length. For the boot mount, unless the CD is factory fit, you should be able to get the cable from the same vehicle as the CD came out of.

You might find there is wiring from the back of the radio (Blue connector) to a Lilac coloured connector under the glovebox area, then you can either fit the short loom to mount the changer in the glovebox or the longer one (which I have spare) to fit it in the boot

It's the 6 CD Changer from the boot. I got it out of a 1.4 petrol polo which just had the tape deck head unit, whereas mines a 1.4 tdi polo with the tape deck and 1CD player head unit.

I managed to trace the wire in the polo it came from, from the boot to behind the dash, but being the idiot I am I pulled the wire because I couldn't see where it went and ripped it out.

So now I have the connection that goes to the CD changer itself but I don't know where it went to behind the dash :S

Like I said i thought it would go directly to the head unit, but it didn't.

Does your radio have a Yellow, Green & Blue connector? if it has the Blue one with 8 wires comming from it, they go to the connections below the relay carrier position 6, then the lead connects to this and runs to the boot for the changer

Mine, if I remember correctly, has just the blue connector.

The CD player bit of the head unit does have the light for the CD Changer but obviously I cant select it because it's not connected.

So, what I'm going to need to do is connect the wire I took out, into where the relay is in my car?

Sorry, if I sound a bit stupid, electrics isn't really one of my strong points.

There were three models of radio fitted as standard Alpha, Beta & Gamma, unless you have the navigation system, only the Beta & Gamma have the CD option and the connectors at the rear are totally different

You should only have the blue connector as the others are used for mobile phone connections and line outs, the wiring from the BLUE connector will go to the relay station in the previous posting, then you connect the CD changer loom purple/lilac connector into position #6 then run the loom back to the boot for the changer

The wiring that I got, that you plug the CD Changer into, doesn't have the end from under the dash though, as like I said I pulled the wire and ended up just ripping it out. So that end must have had the purple/lilac connector on....so it looks like another trip to the breakers, to get that from the relay station...

Starting to think I should have asked/researched about this before ripping the wire out....I don't suppose you know if you can just buy a new CD Changer loom?

As I said in a previous post I have a loom here, I got it thinking I'd need it when I fitted a changer to my Ibiza, but it had the loom fitted as standard from the factory

Thats the only lead you need as long as you have the blue connector wired on the radio, if not then the link to the ebay item will go direct from the radio to the changer, if you want my lead £18 posted + pp fee (£0.88)

I got to the relay station today, only problem is, when I plugged the CD changer loom into position 6, it still didn't work...

It didn't pick up the changer and also made the indicators flash like crazy and the coolant warning light come on :S should there be an empty slot on the relay to connect the loom to? Or do I need to unplug an existing one to connect it?

I think you may have the wrong lead. The one you have is for cars with the necessary wiring between the radio and the panel under the dash.

The lead you need goes straight to the back of the radio. If you look at the diagram near the top of the topic, it shows the connector on the back of the radio in three sections. Have a look at this connector, I think there will be no connections in two of the sections. The correct lead will replace one on the empty sections.

So basically, I need a lead that goes to either the green or yellow, or, a lead the replaces the single CD player, like the one that's linked further up?

I'd like to keep the single player if I could, as well as the changer....but I don't mind just using the changer if that not possible.

As far as I know you can't use both, the end of the lead from the boot CD Changer replaces the one from the single CD. Have you thought about the single DIN CD Changer that fits in the dash rather than the boot mount?

Example here please check the part number before you get anything, this was just the first thing that ebay brought up on search.

Yea I have seen similar ones to that, out of the golf, which has the blue connector...it's worth a look, I just don't understand how they work, without a cartridge?

Reason I thought I'd be able to use both, is my CD player in the dash, has a light for the CD changer...so I assumed you could have both connected.

This is the back of the 6-disk unit. It shows the blue plug which replaces the one currently used by the single disk player.

They don't have a cartridge, you feed the disks in and it saves them inside.

Ah right, I see. I might look into getting one of them then.

I've ordered a cheap cable that goes to the boot for the CD changer that replaces the single disk, but it would be more convenient if it was in the dash.
