Where i work the guy who i get MOT'ed popped by and mentioned that some lights on the dashes are now NOT an MOT failure.

To my understanding they brought in that ANY light on the dash would be a fail , A warning lamp i presume.

I have my airbag light on due to a fault with the drivers seat airbag (wires underneath i presume) and i thought this would fail

He mentioned that they brought this in and then took it out again and infact WOULD NOT fail the MOT because of this.

I looked around and see mixed reviews

Anyone got any know how on this?

When i get a week off i can take the car to my mums , disconnect the battery but untill then will have to put up with it

The testers manual still shows the SRS light ON is a fail

Airbag light is a fail as far as i'm aware. It was on the 6N i had.

as far as i know abs, airbag and MIL lights are still a fail.

Yeah we still fail all these at our dealership

I would have thought it would have failed , Being a "saftey device" and its clearly faulty (just a snagged wire under the seat)

an abs light will fail if it's

a. missing

b. indicating a fault

c. doesn't illuminate when the ignition is turned on.

Airbag light is a fail (as is missing airbag)

ABS light shows a fault and is a fail

MIL doesnt indicate a safety fault and wasnt included to the best of my knowledge.

Xenon Self-leveling warning lamp on isnt a fail as some cars light it to show the system active others a fault, but it is assumed that the self levling is working anyway.

the MIL light has been reason for failure of the mot (or equivalent) in europe for quite a few years and it's a now a fail in the UK under the EU directive (2009/40/EC) the purpose of which is to to harmonise minimum test requirements across Europe and make sure the test reflects the electrical/electronic complexity of modern car safety features.

the EU strikes again...
