Nope this was ages ago, just put the car back on the road that morning and put a full stainless system on then a taxi decided to pull out on me

This 9n3 sedan was hit in the rear by a Nissan GTR going at some chat..

The newer ones do seem to do well enough..

But the old school, whilst a head-on with something the weight of not one but 35 Corsas isn't gonna go well, the results do tend to look scary in comparison..

I would expect the problem was more trying to determine if they were male or female, and combing the area for body parts to determine how many had been in there, as opposed to simply whether they were alive or not..?

It's a gruesome topic, i don't wanna sound disrespectful though. We have MK2 coupes ourselves, it's pretty sobering to see that can happen with a momentary slip aint it.

Still, in my case, the Polo held up very well indeed and I'm pleased to say I walked away from it with not much more than a sore heart (metaphor) and a bruised wallet.

I've watched a lot of crash testing, been in a few crashes (mostly as a passenger, but still) and i think i have a pretty good understanding. No two accidents are the same, the roll was like getting it wrong at a skate park compared to a head-on.

This photo, this is the one that scares me. A tumble is scary but tends to spread the energy. This abrupt impact is what does the damage, a friend of mine had one like it when hit head-on by a Vectra one new years eve whilst on her way to join us at a party in her Punto. She had massive injuries and still suffers.

The Polo above really shows the stages.

First, the frontal panelwork bends around and everything else carries on as if little has happened. There's not even discomfort at this stage.

Then the engine thumps into all in front of it, as the chassis legs start taking load - this is when forces start being felt and the body is being flung into the now locked seatbelt.

Then the engine has stopped and the body is taking all remaining energy, there's little left outside the frame but the dashboard, steering wheel etc are still moving forward with the driver.

Next they stop - the bulkhead/firewall, door hinge area, base of the A-pillars, it's all stopped - but the driver is still moving forward..

So is the seatbelt and it's mounts, and all the car behind.

With the seatbelt slowing right down now, the body continues to flex/stretch/break as it makes it's way into the mess of a dash that is stopped dead in front of it - it slams into the steering column, is stabbed by broken trim, smashed by the steel brackets under the plastic (steering column brackets, pedal box, etc).

Once the body has been slammed into this mess, it's able to be flung back into the seat as the car falls back to wherever it's gonna land.

Could have been the tank filler neck rotted maybe someone flicked a lit cigarette under it
