Adding spare wheel to 9n3 Gti

Featured Replies

Recently got a 9n3 gti, it doesnt have a spare wheel of any sort - just the gunky stuff. I'd like to get a spare for it and was just wondering if theres any thing stopping me from getting something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-POLO-MK-6-STE...=item2ec56432a9

Any gti parts that would stop it fitting?

Thanks

I bet you won't get a 14in wheel over 9n3 1.8T brakes.

The weight is in the tyre, you want a bigger wheel, preferably alloy but most importantly with a smaller tyre on it.

Either a digestive biscuit like this 125/70-18 tyre..

If that's a bit big then a 16 would do..

Or a normal basic wheel from a late spec Golf/Jetta etc, but the tyres tend to be 205s..

Ideally though an alloy with a skinny tyre to keep weight down. My wheels are tiny compared to yours but the point is the same - i have 5.5x13 steels with 185/60-13 tyres. Bit wide and heavy to carry in the boot floor. These only just cover the brakes, though. My previous spare was a 14in space saver from a 6n, until i found a very light 4x13 wheel that fit over my brakes, and i put a 135/80-13 tyre on it. Flat boot floor, low weight, will save me on the hard shoulder.

I don't know what space you have in the boot, it varies and i haven't seen the 9n3. The 6n's floor goes down to your ankles so a space saver is good, but the Lupo has a deep wheel well in a flat floor so you could probably put a 225 tyre in there and it wouldn't affect the boot space!

Hadnt thought about the brakes....hmmmm.

Have to have a measure in the boot to see what would fit, do they not bolt up underneath? Thats how it was on my old punto.

Lift your boot carpet and you'll soon know

I know theres a space under there, didnt look big enough for a tyre though.

Fiat, like the French, use corrugated iron sheet for boot floors - as you'll have noticed, Polos are built a bit better!

If it's bowl shaped, so deeper in the middle than around the outer, a space-saver should go face down. We need pics of a normal boot floor, you might find such pics in the members gallery forum..?
