That rust is shocking, considering how good the car looks in the metal. Don't give up mate, anything is saveable. You only have to know the air-cooled VW scene to realise that. Those guys have pulled vans from lakes and dug them up out of the ground and got them back on the road :-) .

Ah man that's a bummer, still it can be fixed and you should get it sorted the car looks mint otherwise!

UPDATES! I've been seriously busy recently and haven't updated this thread in a while!

Good news! the sill is all welded and painted up so it absolutely sound now! she passed MOT after the drama and I've got her home and slammed her again and sorted tracking! YAAAY!

Thats all good now so on to my future plans...

I haven't written about something that i purchased agggeeess ago for the loon, a nice 1.3GT on bikecarbs all set up and ready to go from Jim or 'runforestrun'

I bought it a good few months back with the intention of tarting it up and dropping it in, however due to insurance i wanted to wait till i had a years n.c and experience as my farther thinks its a death-mobile already without a bigger lump in the front :)

heres some pictures of when i picked it up and put it together for a test fit! :

Then i started to clean it up a bit as you can see the paint wasnt great on the block! - stripped the red off the rocker cover

Parts sat in garage:

Sorted the 4-2-1

After and had sand blast

Then i started painting/polishing main bits:

Painted the manifold suposedly black high temperature paint:

All together, looks pretty porn in my opinion!

Then the missing piece of the puzzle! i can crack on now

i really want to take my time on sorting the bay and painting some more parts such as engine mounts and track arms ect!

plan to chip the rain tray out, move battery to boot sort the fuse box and plan something of the heater and tuck as much as i can for a real sweet looking bay!

yeah itl still be quick, I've been in jims car with this engine ans it pulled well. would benefit from a better camshaft! 268 or 272 if itl clear the pistons.

think it ran a mid 17 second quater mile, was the same sorta ime as mine, but thats because mine was alot better off the line for some reason.

yeah Jim said he had a run that was late 16's but with a not so great start i believe!

tbh I'm not in it for speed but just want something that you can have a little fun with now and again!

How did you get the fuel filler neck to fit between the new sill and suspension beam mount when the repair was finished? As in this pic:

FINALLY A BIG UPDATE!

got the day off today so sorting this thread out!

reached a few milestones:

but in other, and much more exciting news, all this:

magically turned into these:

I couldnt really afford it but as they were from a member on here (moustashg40) and they were perfect offset and build ( as they had been built to fit an 86c) i had to have them!

my wallet took an almighty bashing but the results are stunning!

After a polish and washing the tyres etc I took the opportunity to sort the arches out as they would catch upfront.

I cut the plastic lip of the arch with a grinder about 1-2mm away from the edge to reveal the metal of the arch.

I rolled and pulled the metal forward to give a soft edge towards the tyre rather than just cutting it as the lip would then be sharp.

I also grinded the caliper down to allow the new wheels to fit!

similarly to the above i rolled the rear arches to allow for some serious slammmmiiinnnnggg

I trial fitted the wheels to see how it sat, obviously the fronts with the helpers out and them wound right down:

The backs took a few attempts to get them to sit right and have perfect arch gap... that would be none but the fronts were still too high...

chopped a coil out of the front and i think shes almost there! still recon it needs about another 10-15mm upfront!

however heres some awsome new pictures I've collected of how she sits now!

oh my god i love this even more now!, the 4spokes suit it perfectly and the stance on it is almost spot on i think,back is bang on but as you say the front could come down a bit but as it is id still love to roll about in that thing but scottish roads aint great so i probably couldnt roll as low as it is

I've got fully adjustable top mounts, which I'm yet to write about that gave about another 5 mm, still not enough! may get back with the grinder :S

coilovers wernt low enough, its safer on chopped coilovers than on springs and shocks?

Or buy some different springs? Lol
