My £200 Bready!

Featured Replies

Hi Everyone, This is my first post on Club Polo, and i just figured i'd share with you my project,

a 1990 Breadvan. Its the 1.3cl 4 Speed, and i picked it up for 200 notes!

So here it is!

It'd be sat in the previous owners garage for a year or so (probably more) but it jump started first time

and we loaded it up for the journey home.

There were a few bit of surface rust but otherwise, nothing major so got it all cleared up and primed, there

was also a dent where the rear light had been damaged and replaced which was letting rain in, so i got

that straightened out on the first free weekend i had!

Once the rust was sorted out and primed, It turned out I didn't have as much money as i'd hoped, so decided to

rattle can the whole thing in grey primer from Poundland (not sure how good of and idea that was! haha)

I plan to have it professionally sprayed Orange when I have everything mechanical sorted!

I picked up the scala wheels from a chum who had em on his caddy, although I'm thinking when i drop the suspension,

those big ol' tyres are gonna need changing for a lower profile with a stretch, most likely 155/55/14's

I also had a problem with the oil pressure going off at 2000 revs but having prodded around, it appears to have fixed itself! (I have tested the oil pressure, so nothing to worry about as it appears to be an electrical fault and the buzzer has stopped for now!)

I have replaced the brake discs, pads, and rear brake cylinder also, and it passed MOT first time!

Alas I haven't actually drive it properly yet, due the fact that on starting up for the 'maiden voyage' there appear

to be some problems with the auto choke and carb that has reared it's somewhat ugly head, so, I'll have to wait till the weekend to sort it out now sadly, i didnt really feel like working out in the snow (the workshop is now occupied by another vehicle)

So there you go, thats how things are for now, ill update/fill in more details with time and apologies for the poor spelling/grammar/vocab etc

I'm thinking about trying to get a 5 speed box in for a bit better fuel consumption, what do we reckon?

Just an update, here's where we're at now:

post-120640-1368522078.jpg

...after daily use for the last moth of so, carb problems have reared their ugly head, so i feel like a re-build/carb clean out is needed.

to be honest, i'd rather loose the pooburg thats in there currently for a manual choke one, if anyone has one going!?

The aim is to spend less time like this....

...ALSO! I'd like to pick some brains if i may...

got this odd scraping noise coming from front left (ish) at low speeds when i speed up or slow down. Now, I've changed the wheel bearings, CV joins,

gearbox, and i've checked for wheels rubbing when turn etc.

I'm literally baffled!

Cheers man! Hopefully I can do it justice!

I've had boh 4 and 5 speed versions, I found the 4 speed more responsive and didnt see any big difference in fuel economy

good work like the coulor
