I'm changing my wishbones this weekend hopefully (6n2 gti 2000reg)

And iv been told too nip the bolts up while the wheels are on the floor too preload the wishbones or something? Kind of makes sense but I'm curious to how people do this without a full ramp lift or a Pitt?

On a 6n2 just torque the front bushes at ride height,

Tightening them when the cars is jacked up with the arms at full droop means when you lower it back to normal height the bushes will twist, inducing a lot of preload into them.

IIRC on a 6n/2 you can reach the front lower wishbone bolts with a long extension from the front bumper.

You don't have to worry about the rear bolts, just the fronts. With them, as Harris said above.

Right ill give it a go tomorrow I get what you mean about the bolts twisting in the bushes can imagine it wouldn't be good for them

If I can't get too them (cars low) would driving it up some car ramps be okay or would that put too much stress on them?

Do you know the torque settings for the bottem ball joint, the 2 bush bolts? Iv got a Haynes but if you know of top of your head then I won't complain :p

Yeah you can use bits of wood, kerb or anything, as long as the wheel is sitting at the same height in the arch as it will be when parked, when you do the front bolt up. Same with the lower rear damper bolt, again because you don't wanna clamp the bush in place, then have it twist to it's common position when you lower the car, and it be permanently under that twist load because it's home position is only reached with the car jacked up.

Would probably explain why near enough every car iv had and lowered has ended up needing new wishbones lol well today iv been made wiser :)
