Decided to make a thread on mine and mikes 1991 mk2f saloon, incase anyone was interested haha. I'd got rid of my old car just before hand and just had to get myself back on the road. here is a little piccy of my old car just because i loved it

Anyway back to the polo, bought it in around September from a lad for a tasty £700 in better nick than i expected, here's a pic of the very day that i bought it

Just after i bought this i went online to search for some other mk3 saloons, to get a bit of inspiration for what i could do with this. I came across a sh*t tonne of images of what it used to look like from the previous owner, and they weren't pretty haha. here's it's thread: http://www.clubpolo.co.uk/forum/lofiversio.../t177480-0.html

So anyway, as soon as i got my car there were changes (which i forgot to photograph ) which consisted of basics, spraying the wheels, got a roof rack (stock to be made cool with planks of wood) so on and so on.

After this things got a little sketchier. went about cutting the springs on both front and back for lows, but didn't realise how much it would fuck up the steering and stuff. back end went fine but it was extremely soft still, so if i had someone in the back or even heavy shopping the exhaust would tickle the floor. The front end however went mad, the steering arms came up and not only touched the body (which led to body notching with my trust angle grinder), but the end of the steering arms and the strut arm touched the inside of the arch which made steering extremely heavy and down right dangerous. I also felt game and decided to cut the springs another coil which meant that the springs were now pointless and the car was sat on the damper which again is super dangerous but also is very uncomfortable on any kind of road, not to mention how stupid i must have looked from the outside so if you're reading this and you want to cut your springs just dont. save up and fork out for some bangin coilies - which was my next step.

A hefty £480 later my coilovers arrived and i got straight to fitting. The back ones went on a treat which i expected, but the front ones proved a problem what with having to have the hubs and bearings pressed. I rang up a couple of major garages like kwik-fit and north east tyres and autocare and was told it'd be £50 all in, bearings and hubs pressed out and in. decided to fuck that and went to some backstreets and some guy with a press did both of the bearings and hubs for a 5er each. After seeing the state of the old bearings after being pressed out i quickly decided to purchase myself some new ones and decided to splash out on new hubs too. a couple of days later i had everything i needed, and got to work.

got one fitted and the low jack doesn't even fit under anymore

This is it with around 90mm on the back and about 100mm on front, both the coils go to around 120mm so when i get some new shoes i'll drop it fully.

As i said THIS IS A PROJECT and it has many many things to come, so if you don't like it and decided to slay it, just don't bother because think that unreal cars have to start out as a piece of shit first

Also, anyone got any suggestions that you wanna put into it? i'm open to some offit ideas!

decided to test my old wheels before i have them re-sprayed and buy new tires for streettccchhhhhhh! coilovers still on about 100mm, here is how they are on the front. haven't got round to looking at the back yet :-)

The engine and manifold are now dangerously close to the floor. 2.5cm is the lowest clearance point

wide arches arrived today so hopefully i'll get the on before the end of tomorrow. then it'll start to come together

cheers man, and naaah i'm from Middlesbrough, sold it to a lad from Hartlepool and he had it a few months before selling it again. found her on eBay the other day and she's a wreck now, no engine and panels missing left right and centre - it's a sad sight

yeah had a gold arch and bonnet, not much else haha. as yeah i used to drive it to redcar all the time so it wont surprise me if youve seen it about. small world ey!

i didn't mate this happened on it's own when lowering. if you want to deliberately camber the front there is a special custom top mount that you can buy which just pushes the damper to one side, giving it some angle. and cheers man haha, bolt-ons up this week!

I actually went to look at this when it was up for sale for £1100, £700 is a much better price. did the rockercover bolt get extracted? i know it was snapped in the head and it was covered by some putty... O_0 lol hope you can get it back/better to its younger days. it was a beauty!

yeah i wouldn't have payed more than 700 for it haha, and i don't know all i know is when i did the once over it was fine, and nothing has gone wrong so far :p thanks man, all i know is it's gonna get lower and nicer :-D we'll have to wait and see how it turns out

I never did say you said polo... However, low manifold means nothing, lower it. Take measurements from rear of front wheel arch to floor on FLAT ground please. You'll see where its lower behind the front wheel, the lowest bit.... measure that.

its all good man sorry for being a bit of a knob too, coilovers still got another 20mm to drop so hopefully i'll be left with around 15mm clearance
