Hi guys, right if you don't know me yet? I bought an old mk2 bready running AFH on cbr carbs!

My problem is irregular running, sometimes it's awesome, idles, grunty, rev like a bike! Then other times won't idle, feels sluggish, drinks fuel, dribbles out fuel from random carbs from the breathers on the rear!

I tried it by adjusting the dizzy but its intermittent!

I'm waiting for my bike pump to arrive to see if that sorts the fuel issue?

Also bought another set of cbr carbs(not arrived yet) so il try those aswell? Bought them to make my own manifold and match it to my spare head!

But my biggest doubt is my dizzy? Take the vacuume pipe off it and running doesn change?

Iv sucked on the pipe while its still on the dizzy, still no change?

Someone mentioned suck on the pipe then you should hear it click back? But nothing?

Iv taken the diaphragm looking thing off to see if its seized? But looks ok

With this off, and car running turn the wheel inside the dizzy and in the right place it idles lovely??

So is my dizzy fucked? Or diaphragm fucked? Or could it be because the vacuum pipe only runs off 1 inlet pipe( reason for making my own with linked vacuum, plus carb balance points)

Sorry iv put loads of stuff in this post, I'm just trying to cover what I think a lot of people will ask?

Really want to get it running well, then it can go to a local Rolling road place!

But want to iron out all problems first

float bowls not sealing. too much fuel pressure at the carbs, so you are carbs are overflowing. car will try and stall and will bog down ect.

Cheers for that mate! Yeah it's strange, it has good days but more bad days:-) after playing with the diaphragm thing last night, it's ran sweet as a nut going to work and back today! So I've also just bought another dizzy with new Diaphragm off here :-) I WILL get this breadvan running tidy, even if it kills me!!!!

There's loads I want to do to it, but until its running real sweet I've got no motivation at all!!!!!!

I fucked off the vacuum advance because I couldn't be bothered with the hassle. I'm sure someone mentioned off here that having it run off just one tapin makes it pulse with the engine, because it's not getting a constant vacuum - and this kills it.

I just brazed mine up so it was stuck in place and left it - meant I could get the engine cover over too.

If the breathers are overflowing it's because of what Eric said.

The carbs have little floats like little toilet systems - there's a needle that shuts off the bowl when it's full. If theres a little bit of dirt - it stays open and overflows.

If you clean the carbs - take the bottom of them apart and inspect and blow through the inlets and clean the floats.

Should be reet.

Cheers for that mate! Telling the boys in work today how good it's running lately! As they all laugh and take the piss about my bready, only cos most of them drive reliable Clio diesels!!! And I work in a Renault garage! Ha fuck the French shite,

Anyway coming home chilling to madness on the radio, and I noticed a misfire come back? Pulled over to check an I could here a leak from one of the carb rubber inlet pipes, Limped home, took the carbs back off and found splits in the two outside rubber inlets!

Arranged a lift for work tomorrow and see if anywhere has some hose I could use to tie me over until the new set of carbs arrive as they have rubbers on them already!

Do you only use this Fluoro lined silicone piping?

Yeah, I had this. There's always a few teething problems.

I knocked up a rather study metal bracket - 12mm x 3mm steel, bent using a torch and a vice into a curve.

It let me mount the bracket from the side of the carbs to a conveniently placed bolt on the head - have a look.

Get the carbs held in place and then pipe around them - too much weight on the rubbers will split them, and don't crank them up tighter!

I found tight jubilee's pieced the rubbers.

Also found that Jaguar radiator hose (the V8 type) fitted beautifully!

Yeah I think that's how this has happened!

I had them off last weekend and made sure the rubbers were fixed to the carbs tidy, BUT one inlet is out by couple of mm so I tightened them real tight and its run perfect since UNTILL this happened last nt!!

Iv ordered some fluoro lined silicone pipe so it shouldn't perish with fuel going through them! Hopefully bodge mine back together for work tommorrow, and hopefully my parts should be here for the weekend???

Yeah, I did that too - real tight makes it good then they split.

Get the carbs mounted solid to the head, and you barely need the jubilees on it tbf.

Make sure there's no leaks and you'll be reet.

Yeah il be doing a pretty much solid mounting manifold because I'm hoping to make an air box for the carbs iv bought, and don't want that weight resting on some rubber pipes!

Here is what's caused my problem with the first carb not lining up, resulting in me stretching the rubber bike mounts to fit! When there all on sealed it runs perfect in fairness

Then tonight using some insulation tape and wrapping that in foam sealed tape, then jubilee clipped over the top it's running perfect again!!! It's only temp to get me to my sorting office as iv missed my parcels today so should have my new fuel pump and carbs to play with the weekend? Lets just hope my fancy silicone pipe comes Saturday aswell?????
