Hi you there I have a problem my dash board no longer lights up like it use to and is very dim and just to say I have turned the brightness up on the light controls and that does nothing I was wondering what type bulbs are need for behind the speedometer / tachometer as I would like to put LED ones in also I need to know what bulb is needed for the heater control backlight as that's stopped working as well can't see much during the dark ! Thanks dan

Hi you it's not a mark 2 it's a mark 3 polo !

The dash lights are t5, but caution. The leds will actually make less light then conventional bulbs, due to the angle of light the leds have, so you will have a dot of light above the Speedo and a dot of light above the temp.

For the best result, I would either use two new bulbs, and when changing, remove the plastic part that houses the bulbs, and clean it, if it's off white (no doubt it is) then use some gloss white paint on it and on the other part (main speedo body) this way the light will reflect and shine a lot brighter.

If you want to change the colour, then remove the green filter, and either scrape the green tint off, or make another with clear plastic and use sand paper to give it a rough finish. Then either use tint film or a coloured hat for the bulbs. This can also be used with leds, as this will defuse the light, and it will shine a lot more of the instruments, but you will have to move the position of the leds to get it 100% correct.
