I've been on here for a while but never started a build thread so heres my most recent project...

I spotted this on about a week ago on here and decided I just had to have it!

It's a 1986 Mk2 Polo C Saloon

90,223k on the clock

3 owners from new with full service history.

Last MOT was march last year and passed with no advisories :-)

After talking about it and working out prices of getting it home it worked out cheaper to get a car transporter, which turned out to be the best option as she didn't run to well and brakes were pretty much non existent.

Anyways ill start with a few pics from the ad

All I'm going to say about the door cards is imaginative but also sadly ruined!

So because of low mileage and previous owners I bought it over PayPal!

Needless to say that a few people thought I was mad buying this car without seeing it in person and also trusting some random stranger to bring it down here!

These are some pictures I was emailed after I'd already paid for the car!

Now if your anything like me you'll be lookin at the standard door card on drivers door and thinking, Hmmm are these the pics from the ad when he bought it 6 months before and is it still looking as clean and tidy :-/

So on Saturday morning I got a text sayin would be there about 11 and it turned up bang on time!

The lads got it off the truck then helped me start it (flat battery) to get it in the unit but it didn't run too well and kept stalling out so they helped me push it in.

Only got 2 as soon as it was in cos had people pop round to see it so pictures was last thing on my mind as was walking round bein surprised of the condition it was in.

Then few hours had passed and I started taking all plastic trims off to inspect for rust

In all fairness there's not very much rust just mainly on the arches but its only on surface and there still solid,

Few little blisters here and there and also few stone chips and scratches as to be expected with a 27 year old car.

Will get more pictures tomorrow when I finish work.

I was very surprised of the interior apart from the tacky door cards it was so clean and like its never been touched!

After looking at the paper work after getting it home it turned out the first owner had it from April 1986 up until January 2012 when he sadly passed away.

It works out that the other 2 owners had it for only 6months each!

I'm planning on stripping it down and rebuilding with any parts that need replacing trying to keep it all oem+

Will be doing an engine swap but not completely sure what just of yet but I've got few good ideas.

Going to get lows and some nice wide 14"s

Oh I have to say as well.. Nice looking unit!! :-D

It's going to be slow updates as I'm in no rush to get it on the road I want it done properly :-)

The unit is an ideal space too

It's a tidy 1 mate :-)

On and unit is massive we've got a 6n2 gti in the opposite corner and space for another 2 cars

Haven't done much over the last few days apart from more pics aswell as strip out lights.

The arches have the worst of the rust and as you can see from the pics it's not too bad at all.

I also managed to buy myself an original sales brochure from good old eBay.

Been bit slow recently as its been braving cold in the unit so just done few little bits.

Taken bonnet off to give me space to start attacking the engine.

The front wings are now off and was on and sealed surprisingly well!!

Underneath was still covered in wax and sealant and is mint condition still just needs a clean up ready for sealing and painting.

I'm also looking for a full set of "leather look" door cards just like these to replace the old ones which have been abused by the page 3 girls

If anyone has/knows of any mk2 saloon parts would be much appreciated if you was to let me know :-)

i have images of what i want it to look like but its gonna be a long time from now given the slow progress over last few months, need some rain again so am forced to go up the unit and not enjoy the sun haha

Yeh but I got no experience of engine swaps so don't wanna get in too deep if that makes sense lol

I am now about to revive the build of the saloon as a lot has changed for me over the last year etc but even tighter for time and money as I now have 2 kids and a mortgage in the scene but I'm going to purchase all what I need and slowly put it back together.

Full resto and tidy up will wait until I have more time and money but just want something to drive on the road so going to clean up the arches and possibly just a blow over as it doesn't really need a full respray.

I have an engine conversion lined up, just looking for a few more parts and then hopefully have a few good days on it :)

Will get pictures of how she stands hiding in a corner under a pile of rubbish but I'm just so glad that given the circumstances it has still been dry stored for the last year or so :)
