Looking into getting some pressed metal plates made up all claiming they are uk legal but looking into it they aren't legal unless they reflect. Has anyone on the forum got some? Had any proplems with the police? And best place to buy some made up? Cheers

Use Dubmeister or Euro Pl8. Legal pressed plates.

I had a square pressed plate made up for my jap spec rear bumper on my 6n2

It didn't have the British Standard mark or anything on the plate but font was the same size etc

It wasn't legal technically but had no problems with police or passing MOT

I bought legal UK pressed plates from ebay - legal font, size, spacing, reflectiveness and had the manufacturers postcode and BSU number etc.

Got pulled over for too much wheel poke, told plates were fine.

Crashed my car a year later, copper picked up the front plate out of the wreckage and said it was illegal because it was made of metal on a modern car. I wasn't charged so I didn't argue with him.

same here. run mine for 5years with no problems. mine are reflective tho. stand out for quite a way.

This is why only the Dubmeister ones are fully legal as you have to send off your documents. The Europl8 ones do meet the regulations though, I'd think it'd be them that get fined for supplying plates without checking the documents, not you for running the plates.

And yeah, some coppers are idiots, they will tell you they're illegal because they're pressed/metal, they're just wrong.

Personally I'd spend the extra few quid on Dubmeister ones, and keep a copy of the regulations in the glovebox for a polite "read it and weep" if you get pulled

i had some german pressed ones on once and got pulled (no fine) he was more bothered about the fact they were metal than the font

That would be N. Wales police not giving two hoots. Drove around for years on plates that had ghosted welsh dragons in the background and no one said a thing.

Moved back down here and 3 months later £60 for non-conforming plates.

So went to dubmeister and purchased proper pressed ones instead. Lol

They gave me a £60 fine i only had them on for a week.

Having them in the boot only makes it worse for you as it looks to them that you already know they are illegal and committed the offense anyway, you'll be very lucky if a cop lets you change plates at the side of the road especially if he hasn't already booked you for them.

When I had German font plates my excuse for carrying a spare plate in the boot: I have a towbar and its incase i need one for the trailer.
