Recently got some gti lights with ballasts off some guy on here for a great price

I have noticed though that the lights will flash on then off

I can however get them to stay on eventually by flicking the lights on/off but as MOT is due soon I know it will fail on the lights not coming on straight away.

Any ideas what this could be?

if it's only 1 side which is affected, swap the bulbs around. If the fault follows the bulb, replace both bulbs, if the fault stays on the same side, change the ballast on that side.

AFAIK, Xenons Online can do Third-party alternative replacement ballasts for the 6n2, but you're best off asking them.

I have brand new bulbs in so that shouldn't be the problem,

Both the lights do it but the left side takes longer to come on than the other.

I just got a little confused as they both come on eventually, it's as if the bulbs arn't get the surge of power quick enough

I'll have a word with Xenons Online though, i know those guys are quite helpful

Could be that your ballast is coming to the end of its life and is taking longer to warm up.

It could also be that something is causing the ballasts to go into "crash" mode hence the need to restart them to get the to ignite. this could be external interference from a coil or wire to a break in the ballast HT cable.

Is there any way I can check all this or would it be just as easy to buy a new set of ballasts?

You could try to check all the Low tension wiring first, then try to see what electronics are next to the left ballast (has been known for certain electronics to be effected by ballasts so it could happen the other way)

But I would suggest some New ballasts as I wouldnt go messing with the High Tension side due to the voltage involved. (23kV starting spark, 90V constant).

Looks like it will be a new set of ballasts then, i'm no electrician so don't want to be messing with all the wiring for them.

Just waiting on a reply form Xenons Online about replacement ballasts.

My ballasts are now getting on a bit (from when Xenon's first started) and I have noticed there not as fast warming up as they used to be.

They are original ballasts as far as i know so if that's right, they will be around 12 years old

Might be time for a new set to be bought tbh
