Afternoon people's, going to view a 6n2 1.4 tdi pd with just under 80k tomorrow and just asking for general advice to look out for?

I know obvious like rust, general condition (there is a big scratch and a little dent on the rear quarter but this doesn't bother me)

Wondering if there's any common problems with engine/suspension I should look out for? When's the cambelt due?

Any problems with turbos?

Any and help is appreciated as always

I have no first hand experience of it, but I am lead to believe that the 6n2's gearbox is nasty.I'd like someone to back me up on this though.

Yeah, gearboxes are pish but just listen for a whine and make sure it selects and drives okay.

Shell was galvenized so is pretty solid anyway, check the arches and stuff but you shouldn't really find anything.

Make sure the clutch pedal isn't creaky, the pedal boxes can fail - ask if it's been done.

If you can, get underneath the pedal box with a torch and see if you can see hair line cracks. Tbf, they're hard to spot so you'd be lucky.

The window switches are pish too, and so are the regulators on the window. But all easy stuff to replace - but stuff you can knock a bit of money off it they don't work.

Gearboxes on tdi's are very reliable, petrol 6n2s have peddle box issues.

SE spec is better as it has alloys etc. Check that timing belt and water pump have been done. Using the right oil is critical on tdi's so make sure that it has some specialist service stamps.

Body's are tidy on 6n2s any rust is normally related to accident damage.

Personally, after owning a tidy colour conecpt TDI, I'd say I wouldnt have another TDI unless it had 4 cylinders.

I loved the car, but hated the engine so much and the noise it made so much that I got rid of mines quickly.

They are a bit noisy but still a cracking motor.

Did they make 6n2's in 1.9TDi flavour?

Nah man. Just the 1.4 tdi 3 cylinder and a 1.9 SDI
