I fucking hate Insurance companies.

Featured Replies

Some on here will know about the bump I had in the snow last year where a woman drove into the side of my Polo.

Rang my insurance, exchanged details etc etc.

The other party admitted liability and my insurance company at the time said they would end the process from their end as the other party insurance would pay for repairs. All happy days, free repair, no claims still there and so on.

Now. This is the bit thats gripped my shit in an immense way...

Online quotes for renewal at the start of the year, 19 years old, 3 points, myown policy, 2 years no claims with my mother as a named driver. Got an online quote of around £860.

The insurance company rang me back the same day and over the phone got the quote down to £772. Even better.

Today, rang them up to pay for insurance, all going well until he stops me and says "It says here that there is a mark against your name". I asked why and all the other questions to find out the reason as to why I was being penalized for an accident that wasn't my fault and was sorted a whole year ago. This is what made me laugh..

"The reason there is a mark against your name is because you rang Aviva to tell them you had been involved in an acident, If you hadn't of called them up there wouldn't have been a mark against you".

Because i rang my insurance to tell them I had been in a bump, as the law states you should and its what you should do anyway, I'm having to pay more. If I didn't ring in, I would have been fucked over by the other parties insurance? How are you supposed to win?

So... even though the other party admitted liability, my insurance cancelled the claim from my end and I still have my no-claims I am having to pay more for insurance for doing nothing wrong at all?

Now my insurance quote has gone from £772, of which I had saved up and put in the bank ready to pay.. Increased to £1050. How is that fair? I completely understand why people drive without insurance now. Bunch of nice people.

Really really really fucked me off now.

"nice people", i enjoy that auto correct.

Isn't it normally negotiable? that sounds totally unreasonable and unfair, so I reckon you'd be able to argue it down, ask to talk to the manager.

I'm sure insurance quotes are only valid for a certain period of time how long ago was the £772 quote?

£278 isn't a massive amount, youd fall off your chair if i told you how much i pay. have you tried other places for a quote they may be able to negotiate a better deal?

I pay 3 grand think yourself lucky lol

Yeah, thats still a decent quote...

I paid more than that with a clean licence, 2 yrs ncb, decent postcode etc etc.

I still pay more than that with 3rs ncb... my car isnt exactly standard though, and its fully comp 8-)

£772 quote was yesterday once i rang them. £278 isn't much to someone on a half decent wage. Its a fucking lot to me when i have things to fix etc

£1700 - £1500 - now £1000. Still good, its not the price I'm annoyed about anyway. Its the fact I am penilized for something that was settled as not my fault.

as above.. Just really annoyed me. I have a mark against my name but i kept my no-claims? I dont get that.

I've had the same mate, your bang on about the idiocy of the rules there and how the insurance companies are able to effectively hold their customers (of which your enforced to be a customer) to ransom.

its in a motorists best interests to settle any dispute whether you hit them or they hit you, outside of the insurance companies.

once bitten, forever shy

insurance companies are like banks - they're both money grabbing bastards!

i pay £80 a week for a unmodified 1.0 lupo, talk about getting shafted

Fair enough man there just thieves that steal all our money

i pay £80 a week for a unmodified 1.0 lupo, talk about getting shafted

Jesus! thats over four grand a year!!!

I paid £900 on 'my mums' polo... Going to be £650 a year on my van when I get it. 18, no ncb.

Insurance is a random number generator. FACT!

they work out prices on how many chinese people they can drown in a day! its stupid, i was paying 1650 on a e36 325i at 20 now i have a 1.6 bora its gone up to 2 grand a year!

Only a small minority of UK insurers load for non-fault (settled) claims, it sounds like you have found one of the minority. Shop around.

If you think of it as a £278 increase it doesn't seem that bad. But realistically thats almost a 25% increase on the original quote. Which is a pretty hefty amount to add on!

I'd tell them to piss off and go look around. You have to have insurance, but you don't have to stay with that company. Shop around, no doubt someone will give you a better quote.

I'm sacking mine off come March. They had mine and my wifes cars insured the wrong way round. Me on her Audi and her on the M3. To swap it around my premium would increase by £200 because I'm a high risk driver (apparently). Hers wouldn't go down though. I questioned it but apparently how I thought it worked isnt how it works.

IE the high risk driver (me) going onto a different policy (M3) would increase that one. The low risk driver (wife) going onto the the other policy (Audi) would go down.

Rang them the next day and the new quote was £907 instead of £1050.

Couldn't be arsed with the hasstle of ringing around etc so just went with that

Higher premiums for accidents which aren't your fault grind my gears to say the least. Admiral tried this on me & I told them in no uncertain terms to get fucked or I'm talking my business elsewhere. They backed down, but I'm not going with them again.
