Yes it's a mod it has to be declared as it didn't leave the factory with them fitted.

As a rule, if it didn't leave the factory with it, it has to be declared and that applies to anything.

if they were an optional extra for the model you own you dont have to declare them

Yes you do!

Because it would be on the options sticker if they had been fitted.

Often places will insure them for no extra charge but you still need to tell them.

If you do fit them I would be interested in your wheel trims if you have all4

According to the rules, you even have to declare shit like different tyres to standard if your anal.

Its fucking gay tbh haha

I unfortunately don't have them anymore ! I advertised them on here for free to anyone who wants to collect but had no takers, so ended up chucking the wheels & hub caps...

Looks like Ill be ringing my insurance company tomorrow then as they are already on ! Ha. To be fair my insurance renewed at £342.50 this year and I am a 20 year old male so cant complain about insurance prices.

I'm not sure that's true. I'd like to see the specifics on that. It may be if you were replacing them with tyres out of the manufacturers specifications (extreme e.g. 165s on a 10") unless thats what you meant

Technically you're meant to declare a sticker, so I'd imagine changing tyres from that of what the vehicle wasn't tested or developed with, may have a greater effect on insurance.

That said, it must be "generally accepted" that people fit any old shit that the local tyre place supply, and I suppose level of investigation depends on the circumstances of an incident.

Bearing in mind how many insurance companies read this board.

Yes.

Who are you insured with?

I asked the COOP about 6n2 wheels on a 6n, but as that specific wheel wasn't available on a 6n they decided they needed to be declared as after market - not OEM. Weird I though but hey.

Really ? I can imagine AVIVA or other insurers (maybe not the ones that have a partnership with club polo) have better things to do than pay staff to trundle through a forum on the off chance one of their policy holders is a member and divulges information about their car...

Could be wrong though...

Aviva. Will let you know what they say tomorrow. Cant fault them as a company. Always answer the phone within a minute or two and always speak to a competent person. Plus £342 fully comp for a 20y/o male !

Do you have your car registered at Buckingham Palace or something lol

And declare them, it's really not worth the risk, chances are nothing would ever happen but if the shit does hit the fan it's nice to know your coverd.

Haha ! No, but I do live in quite a small village so I guess that helps...

What about my stereo as thats been changed from the standard beta cassete to VW MFD Satnav system as well as different speakers in the doors, the VW ones blew ?

most insurance company will give a certain amount of cover for ICE, when i was with admirial i think it was something like £300 cover as standard, so its probably worth giving your insurance company a ring and ask if they do this as standard.

To add my wheels was £48.72 for the year making my grand total : £391.22 !

They confirmed that the stereo is covered up until a certain value but they would need an invoice to prove what I paid for it if it was stolen. I brought it off eBay!

Cost is listed on eBay then I bet somewhere :)

But you'd still need proof that he bought it. An ebay invoice may suffice, but I'm not sure they are legal proof of purchase

if they were an optional extra for the model you own you dont have to declare them

Incorrect, insurers systems do not pick up most optional extras.

Most specialist insurers would not charge for adding minor cosmetic modifications.

Even worse then - as the car in question wasn't built with these alloys as an option from new so it wouldn't be on the sticker either way :)

You'll find you even have to declare badges that suggest enhanced performance & even stickers!

Not that the stickers are always correct to whats actually fitted to the car. Lol.

After decoding the sticker on the 89 mk2 breadvan it said it came with 18inch alloys and tyres to suit. Hahahah

I added my mk1 front bumper to my mk2 today (with admiral) and the woman on the phone didn't even recognise it. I told her it wasn't an optional extra and was off of an older model polo and her words were "oh it's from the same manufacturer then? nah that's fine I don't need to add that".

Very odd.
