Long story short, my sausage fingers + shit spring compressor have snapped 2 of my oil scraper piston rings,

The engine code is ABD, though 3F (GT) piston rings are the same, as are the AAU.

If anyone has any good condition second hand ones laying around i'd gladly take them off your hand ASAP.

In real need of these now.

unlucky Max i dont use the piston ring pliers for the oil scraper bottom rings only the middle and top rings as its alot easier and the oil ones are so thin and fragile at the bottom as I'm sure your now aware

There was no problem getting them on, its getting them into the bores without them breaking!

Weve had three of us try now and every time theyve broke, both very experienced engine builders.

The rings have been gapped correctly, so go into the bores fine. Its when they have the inner spring fitted that they start breaking.

i take it your using the piston ring compressor tool for fitting the pistons into the block i know there are other ways of doing it but i bought a compression tool for like £8 delivered and works perfect

Do you mean the tapered sleeve approach? we machined one up, and they still crumbled.

I'm not saying there's something wrong with the rings, but i'm pretty sure we're being as careful as possible!

No I'm on about the special tool you can get which compresses te rings into the piston causing a parallel sleeve around it then you just slide it down into the bore

Aye a piston ring compressor. Have two, one old and one new. Both same outcome.

Either snaps the oil scraper, or fails to compress it enough.

Tried the tapered sleeve and they just snap.

Oh right I dont know then mate hope that don't happen on my new pistons as the rings are hella expensive

Where abouts are the rings snapping is it when they start going into the bore then

Theyve snapped at all different point in installation mate.

Takes the piss!

they're fine when placed into the block on there own. Gapped fine etc

Then with the addition of the spring ring, and the piston, they just break :(

If your still after some rings Max theres a chance I might have a second hand set, I stripped a AAU block which had holed a piston, I think I've still got the pistons/rings etc, I'll let you know
