Steve's Mk2 Jetta

Featured Replies

Thought I might aswell do a build thread for this seeing as mostly I'm on this forum anyway (even though I haven't got a polo). Looking at wheels is still quite fun...

Sold my black mk3 in November and ended up getting this from Sheffield, was in the for sale section on here as most of you may know.

For sale ad pics:

Basically got fed utter bullsh*t by the seller, few things like 'its 100% mechanically sound', 'the pepperpots have nearly new tyres on' and 'With a tiny bit of bodywork this could be a show winner' Pahaha, I was a mug!

Every single tyre was on the wear limit, and after travelling 3 1/2 hours, paying my mate £90 in fuel for his VR, and not finding one patch of rust on it I felt like it could maybe be worth it. I collected it on the weekend when everywhere up north flooded and had fun aquaplaning all the way down the M1, took me about 4 1/2 5 hours in the end and didnt get back til 3am...

Anyway finally gave it a good clean the next morning, it definitely needed it:

Then I went to OBD works (OBD Works Facebook) for him to have a look, was rather shocked at what had to be done:

-Two brand new wishbones

-Two brand new top mounts

-N/s CV boot

-O/s Steering rack bush

-New Brake lines & New fluid

-Handbrake cable's

-Exhaust rubbers

-p/s Rear cylinder

-Adjusting Handbrake cable

-Rocker cover gasket

-Oil pressure switch

Which is surprising for a mechanically sound car...

Although cannot recommend OBD works enough tbh, reasonable prices and a genuine guy that is an absolute legend!

Won a new grill on eBay aswell, bargain at £5.50 with no broken clips!

Huge dent in the front wing, so I'm going to collect two new front wings (which luckily are in L041) with the big bumper arch trims, as what isn't broken or cracked on the existing ones is grip filled on. Its got so many little dents everywhere on the car, will keep a dent man happy for a full day.

So now its at a decent standard all I need(ish) is coilovers and wheels as my coilovers are knackered.

Let me know what you think guys!

Wayyyy

Went through so many cars because I didnt trust my mechanic, and sold the mk3 because I actually made a profit! I am a bit though, would love a G40 as a weekend car!

Love it mate looks awesome what wheels you thinking?

All depends how the next few months go (might be moving house or might not) Either way the summer wheels won't be one piece :D

Needs a Jetta front end!

So is it a Getta then?

I've got the original front end, missing an adjuster on on of the headlights though sadly :(

Looking nice Steve

Looks amazing!

I've one in capri green with the golf front end, though this puts mine to shame!

Cheers guys!

Getting a mate to machine polish it next weekend aswell I think, lets hope I can get the wings fitted before then.

What an absolutely stunning car <3 I hate those Audi wheels though

But otherwise

UHHHHHHHHHHH.....

Never really fancied Jettas but in black... Mmmm. I want it <3

Cheers guys <3

Got rid of the pepper pots about a week or so after owning it, really let the car down.

Went and got my tracking done aswell as it was juddering pretty badly, drove it after the tracking had been done and it seems the wheels are buckled :( will use up what's left on the tyres and just get rid for £50 or something. Atleast it's a chance for new wheels! Shame to see them go though...

apart from the slight mechanical issues, it looks like you picked up a decent jetta, looks good and straight in the pics. what wheels you thinking?

Cheers man it's not too bad, just waiting on an email from an American wheel company. Will be a happy bastard if they will ship them over!

So is it a Getta then?

Jolf ;) I did have a spare set of headlights a while ago but Mr Guy had them off me :(

I like Jolf

Filled the coolant up about 3 weeks ago and its nearly gone. Topped it up and had a nose around whilst cleaning the bay and it looks like the rad is leaking. I've got a fair bit of coolant so that can wait for a bit. But i'll be getting a new carb gasket, exhaust clamp, airbox front mount and thermostat on friday. Slightly worried about the coolant issue as it could be the head gasket, but I suppose if its leaking from the rad that could explain it?

Either way if the gasket does go I can get an ABF engine for relatively the same price as getting it fixed, I know what i'd prefer...

that blue saloon tail light looks nice you should have taken a photo of a bit more of it

wut?

the badman polo saloon in the last pic of your first post

  • Author

Ah I see! Its just slammed on steelies sadly, engine fucked itself that's why its just sat there. Apparently cars need coolant.

No real updates apart from a new thermostat, carb gasket, and exhaust clamp. Running a bit better but I think the steering rack might be loose, going to inspect this weekend.

Had it machine polished on sunday though, came out gorgeous!

My mates old motor this. Glad to see it getting some treatment.

Edit: have you raised it?

Edited by RobWhite1992

  • Author

I had to raise it as I couldn't get on the drive lol. Although with no helper springs and the shocks completely knackered the ride isn't great, wheels and coilovers are next on the list I think.

Yeah, I'm mates with chris too, the wheels, are you sure they are buckled and not just unbalanced? first thing i'd do personally before jumping to the conclusion that they're buckled is get em balanced, it'll save you a fortune in new wheels!

  • Author

Had them balanced man, they have atleast 4 weights on each wheel all round. I was going to get new wheels anyway to be honest!

lame my car only has 3 weights per wheel, gunna save up for some more so i can go as fast as yours with 4
