What is York like? For CP presence/to drive round/good routes outside the city

Featured Replies

Hi all!

I have been offerd a job in York and need to decide if I move up there.

Having looked at houses to rent I reckon I can stretch to get one with a garage/driveway which is essential for whatever car I will have by the time I get there.

My question is:

What is it like for being car friendly?

Many members on here from there?

Good routes etc for a sunday blast?

I know this probably shouldnt be a key issue for me but it is!

In general, what is it like to live in York?

Any advice would be greatly appreceated!

Cheers

It's a really nice place, but not car friendly. Make sure there's somewhere to park where you live because on road parking's a mare.

Upside is, public transport's not bad, and it's not a huge place, o you can walk or pedal most places.

Cheers Yeti,

Did you live there then or know someone who did?

Yeah I have had a look through the normal rightmove houses for rent and the terraced ones look shit for parking. Recently resprayed Mk1 so no way I would be happy to leave that out there!!! Need to have a garage or drive.

Nah, i've just been everywhere! Spent a few weeks there a few years ago.

I live like 1-2 hours away from there, sometimes go for a weekend to see one of my bestfriends at UNI. Its so cool and there needs to be more dubs there! But your quite central at york,

I lived in the slightly strange town of Hutton Buscel for a few months and runs into York were almost daily, also the village didnt have a pub and it was a long bloody walk to the nearest.

Walk/bike across it in no time, everything is fairly close together, parking is a nightmare especially in the summer, and having stayed with work colleges who lived in york a drive/garage is a must as there is no real guarantee of being able to park outside your own house

As for good routes for a Sunday blast your spoilt for choice. The A64, A170 and A171 wernt a bad road for a blast at the time I lived there and work used to take me up into the hills to Thwing and other strangely named places up there.

Only bad recollection I have was driving off the road at low speed in heavy fog near Whitby one morning.
