Hey guys, just wanting some questions answered because I've lowered my polo but for some reason its not low enoigh and i know for a fact I've seen people on the same set up as me but they are alot lower,

The set up is Ta technix coilies front and back and bbs rx2's

I'm just wondering if I'm doing something wrong because the rears can go lower than the fronts with the helpers in, the front helpers have been off for months and they are wound all the way down and it dosent look like 120mm at all, obv i know that TA's are the cheapest on ebay and are far from a good set up but I'm out of ideas

Any ideas would be helpfull

are the springs narrow? i.e do they look the same as the rear coilovers?

Because the 6n2 springs are wider, they look similar to your original ones, narrow at the top, then wider in the middle, narrow at the bottom

for example your kit should look like this:

you need to take the original front springs out and put the wide springs on (pictured Right)

Right i get what your on about but no i do have the wider progressive springs on because the other ones are for 6n's

how low is it sitting exactly? photos?

Are you sure the front isn't fouling the chassis which is why it won't go lower?

The bottom of my bumper sits flush with a coke can i know i need lower profile tyres but I'm only going from a 195/50/15 to a 195/45/15

i think i may cut the bump stops out to see if that makes a difference :) any other ideas just give me a shout would be much appreciated

The only way cutting the bump stops would make you go lower would be if your already riding on the bump stop.

Right when i get lower profile tires next week ill cut the bupmp stops in half :)

Yeah, mine have bumpstops in, still have loads of thread, and the splitter is less than 2 inches off the ground..

So yeah, I think the problem isn't your bumpstops.

if you have helpers out wound all the way down and it's still not low you're 100% sat on your bumpstops! cut them down to a minimal size, 5-10mm. the tyre size wont help either!

whats with the urge to be 'low on this forum anyway? you dont have decent wheels, what's the point in being hellish low? it's not going to make your car into a show car or women's clothes fall off!

That was on you technix, helpers IN and bump stops in ... 16s admittedly but was low enough

That is on JOM blue lines, still 70mm of thread left to Go down as well, I've raised up since then. You go any lower and you're gunna have problems with driveshaft fowling chassis

low isnt about shows and womens clothes falling off, its about the challenge and the fun of it :)

but yeah ill chuck it on the 4 poster ramp in work and see where i am with the bump stop side of things then ill go about the tires

Jom coilovers wound right down. Resulted in a cracked sump. I found camber on front wheels helped drop it as well

If I wound all the way down on the JOMs my subframe would be touching the floor ! That must of been a pretty horrendous ride with the shocks bottoming out , ARB knocking, and driveshaft fowling ?

I think I know exactly what your problem is mate because I've just bought TA-Technix myself and experienced this. In fact it's the whole reason I've just come on here.

Basically, TA-Technix have changed their design, I'm presuming to lower production costs, as now they just seem to be universal struts with the hub mounting points simply threaded on instead of welding.

This wouldn't be a problem but the struts they're choosing to use are far too long and don't offer enough travel to actually go as low as the rest of the setup should allow the car to go.

You'll probably find that you're sat on the bumpstops and that's why you're not getting low enough, this is a common problem for people running low but it should happen a lot further down than with these new coilovers, as even without the bumpstops you'll still be bottomed out with tonne of ground clearance left.

Soooo basically, if you want to go lower, you just need to send these coilovers back.

If yours look like this, with the threaded lower section and extra lockring lower down, then you've got the problem I'm describing and they are absolutely useless.

TA technix have always been just welding mounts on to the same coilover unit! hence the over dampening on smaller cars and not enough dampening on heavier cars!

anyway, i cut a set of those up a few weeks back for a mount flip, they're the same length as every budget coilover i've ever come across, which is alot.

I think these new ones with the thread on mounts must be longer though, they've got a seriously shite amount of travel on them! Even with bumpstops out and just sat bottomed out on top of the damper it wouldn't be as low as my polo coupe, and that's saying something cause they bottom out well early on the fronts.

One thing that can be done on them would be simply pulling the mounts off and threading them back on the other way round to go a bit lower but even then I don't think they would go low enough

With the adjusters sat where they are in the picture the springs were unloaded and could be wobbled around whilst the car was sat on the ground

It's not that bad a ride. It's bumpy like but I've been in worse cars. Yeah subframe catches, arb squeaks and driveshaft catches. Used to it now
