Recommend me a phone

Featured Replies

The way I work it is I have a sim-only contract with Virgin, which is an utter bargain, everything I want and need for a tenner a month, so I'm not letting go of that.

The downside is, my phone's approaching fucked.

I use it for work, so it's got to be reliable. Need to be able to do my emails on it, use the internet fairly well, get my clubpolo fix, and generally have a read and a browse when I'm slacking off. Needs a camera, but it doesn't have to be a great one neccessarily.

I fancy a smartphone, not an iphone though, Android, Blackberyy, Windows, I'm open-minded.

I don't mind spending up to a couple of hundred (work tool so I can do a tax dodge on it), but if I can spend less, that's always good.

What sort of screen size?

I've got a note 2 with a survivor case on it for work use and I Cant fault it but its a sizeable phone even without the case.

I have a friend who works in Carphone Warehouse and he suggests for that sort of price he would look at a Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini which you can pick up unlocked on eBay for anywhere between £150-£250.

Well happy with my first HTC, this model is a one-x.

Only criticizm really is its a touchscreen but you can have it on nine key phone keypad, which I do, keys are an inch wide. So big yet so thin its tricky to pick up and hold with cold hands, so I dropped it circa ten feet onto concrete floor below, landed on the corner the full HD video camera is in and now camera function doesn't work - rest of the phone still does though. So needs a case.

N95 tbh.

Them mofos are just about indestructable, and pretty cheap on ebay.

Oh, you said smartphone, then a galaxy s2/3 just dont break the screen, nigh on £200 for a new one.

I've got a htc hd7 (windows seven)

i got it when it first came about and loved it ever since

I've been working on the car, black hands, dropped it a few times, getting in the polo with joggers and it falls out :/

however all I've done is put a screen protector on it and its bomb proof!

awsome screen (as in v.good picture quality)

not sure what price they go for but alot for your monies!

3310?

Why not an iPhone?

You can pick up a 4 for about £150-£180.

!m!

I went for a Nokia Lumia 800, £140 quid PAYG then stick your sim card in it, I really like it although find the lack of notification light on it (you have to press a button to make the lock screen appear to work out if you have unread texts/emails etc)

my old sony ericsson used to be able to light a different colour depending on whether it was whatsapp, whatsapp group message, sms or email so was really handy at a glance.

couldnt justify spending more than 150 notes on a phone and wanted it new for the warranty (which ended up being used the next day after buying it as there was a dead space for the touch-screen capacitance)

Because if you place it on a hard surface without being really really really careful, the screen smashes.

Would recommend the Nokia Lumia too, had mine for a while now and its not put a foot wrong, also does a lot of stuff better than the iphone plus a lot of things it can't

Only if you're daft enough not to have a case. Had mine for 2.5+ years, dropped it many times and it's just fine.

Agreed

I have an S3 but that is probably over your budget tbh.

If I were you i'd go for the Galaxy S2. Better than the Iphone 4s and probably the 5. Affordable too. You;d just have to get a mini sim from Virgin,

Mine hasn't ever had a case on, been thrown at many objects and all it's got is about an inch long scratch on the back. Iv never broken an iPhone and iv had 3.

Galaxy s3 if possible

I've got an S2 and a 4S - I can't say I rate one over the other. I dislike the arrogant way Apple like to push their way of doing things, but equally that can be their strength when things just work - whereas the more flexible Android 'phone is a bit less stable. I had to upgrade the S2 to jelly bean as it had a habit of randomly turning itself off otherwise.

You can cut an ordinary sim down to size and not have to fanny about with call centres

Iv had a variety of iPhones tbh, can't really fault them. Like Andy says its a bit annoying "the apple way" but mine have always just worked. Get some hammer too, and if you break it they're a piece of cake to take apart, replacement bits are dirt cheap and can be fixed.

Screen breaking? Iv smashed one in 4 years. And didn't have a case on it then, my friend took his S3 out his pocket earlier and the screen was broke, just from being in there lol.

People get stuck in their ways, I often play on other people's phones, all have the same features etc as mine, laid out similar but I just prefer how mine operates, smooth and nice. But maybe that's just because I'm used to it lol, but I currently have no reason to want to change

My old fagPhone 3G "just worked" 'til I stupidly let iTunes upgrade iOS, at which point it became so slow it was only any use as a basic 'phone. Lesson learnt though, the 4S is still running the software it shipped with.

Yeah, the S3's are renowned for just spontaneously cracking their screens, usually in the trouser/pant area.

Come on nick, don't be a dick, that didn't happen

Actually did lmao, I always think its gonna happen to me tbh, when you bend and it's like squashed between jeans and leg I can see how it happens lol.

Smart phones have a piece of glass on them at the end of the day, always a possibility lol.

Had 3 iPhones over the years and never broken one.

The home button on my 4 went wrong but I replaced it easily with a £5 part. Even came with the tools to do it.

Plenty of videos on youtube on how to do it too.

I tend to go by my stepson who skates a lot and has broken more phones than I can count. He's smashed the screen on about 3 iPod touches, at least 2 HTC's, nokias, LG's (something like 6) and many many other phones but his 4S survives. I've got no idea how but it does.
