I've had a galaxy s2 for two years and its great. Very please and the glass seems amazing for how much grief i give it.

Its better to use than the sony xperia i also have.

Most people have had only one or two phones so they cant really compare many.

Oh and guys - Steve the OP in this case said not an iphone, if he said I hate iphones: discuss. your posts might have been relevant. They might be good and they might be bad phones, lots of people like them, and lots of people haven't tried anything else. None of that is relevant here. This thread is supposed to be giving recommendations about a reliable and good to use phone that fits the criteria which isnt an iphone. If a guys asks for help please try and give it. ;)

Yeah but people are also biased when they don't need to be.

I'm sure I'd get on fine with a lot of phones, they all do the same shit anyway.

Unless he specially can't have an iPhone because it's OS doesn't support certain forum features he needs to access etc?

I'd say an s3 or something tbh, but depends on budget, or if you want new or used? Can't remember what OP said now

GALAXY s2.

Sony Ericsson W200i. Simply the best phone in the world. Cameras crap, internets crap and i cant get Bookface (or much else for that matter). However i have a computer for that and a camera for photos. It does have MP3 and expanable memory though. And the best feature..... Actual buttons! Had it 7 years and it cost £20 new. Its been dropped and sat on 100's of times. The worst was accidentally chucking it across a car park, where it bounced 5 times and then skidded on its screen for a few metres. Only has one tiny scuff. Screen is still free of scrapes. Still works as perfectly as the day it was un-boxed. It was even stolen once but was returned to my mates house after all the credit was used .

And No, it hasnt been in a case.

Oh, you said smart phone...... When they make one with buttons that can take as much punishment as my phone and last even half as long then i will recommend it.

iPhone

not a galaxy note

not a galaxy note

Samsung galaxy S3

END

Got one the other week and sent it straight back cause it was flimsy as hell... Then ordered an S4, go figure

My recommendation would be a HTC desire HD. I've had mine for two years now, its been faultless in everyway, I've dropped it from great hights, its had coming together with weld splatter, been used as a torch to fix countless cars, been covered in oil and grease, and its still working faultlessly, albeit with a few battle scares. Never used a protective case and I always abuse my phones, this is the only one that's lasted a full contract without having to bring my orange care into play atleast twice. It's fine for using on the net and has a pretty big screen too. The camera is good as long as your in good light, once the light fades tho its fairly crap.

No idea what they sell for now but can't imagine it would be a great deal as they are getting on a bit now. I'll defo be keeping my as a work dog because I just can't see the Samsung being able to take half the shit this one has

Bought a nearly new Xperia u for 50 notes. That'll do.

Malaga red - yep, I use one of those as a spare, awesome phone!
