Handbrake light constantly flashing

Featured Replies

Just recently my handbrake beeps 3 times and flashes constantly. Been thinking its the plunger or the plug on the handbrake but when the cars been ran (even for only a couple of miles down the road) and i turn the car off and on it works fine? Brake fluid looks fine at the max line, diagnostic comes up clean aswell. Any ideas?

Cheers

I ran my 6n2 with the ABS sensors unplugged and this gave me a beeping noise and flashing handbrake light... Might be worth checking down the ABS route, although that would more than likely throw up a code.

My abs has been on for a while aswell haha, brought up both rear sensors on diagnostic whereas on MOT I was told just one rear sensor, so it could be because both have gone?

The ABS has it's own seperate warning light

The ABS does have a seperate warning light Nige! but when I unplugged mine it bought up the Handbrake flashing (should have mentioned my ABS light was on too) ;)

Can't figure if its just coincidence that its fine after been ran or if it has something to do with it haha

Just done some research, possibly the fuses on the battery? Abs controller or plug on the brake fluid?

Maybe not applicable here but diesels have a low vacuum warning which also registers on the handbrake warning system.

I would have said check your brake fluid level, then move on to everything else.

Check the brake fluid level. The fuses on the battery would throw a code on the ABS unit.

Get it on diagnostics; usually the beep is fluid low or a bad FRONT ABS sensor. If you unplug the front it'll beep.

Fluid is on the max line so that's fine, diagnostics have give me 2 bad rear sensors. Going to check the fuses on the battery yeah and see what they look like. Will see if replacing the rear sensors explains the flashing handbrake light.

Cheers for the replies.

Still can't find a cure for the handbrake light. Drove all of 5 miles this morning, turned the car off and back on and works fine, until its been left. As if it needs to run and get warm to work?

Does it beep?

Beeps 3 times when i start the car then just flashes from then onwards yeah.

Yeah. I'd maybe check the level sensor, it could be fecked.

I'm pretty sure you bridge it out to pretend it's there.

Yeah going to this weekend. Changing a wheel sensor this weekend and already changed the fuses on the battery aswell to just rule out a few things. How do you mean bridge it out?

Take a paper clip/wire/metal strand and bridge out the pins on the plug.

See if it goes off. Otherwise, check the wiring.

Will do mate cheers

Fluid plug seemed fine, I've now replaced one sensor (what a ball ache) and the handbrake problem has disappeared and diagnostic only reads one sensor out and not two. So replacing a sensor seems to have solved it.
