Alley Cats - What to do with them...

Featured Replies

So, these are my 6x13 alleycats i've had for the past few years...

They just don't look too fresh anymore as the gold paint is flaking and has quite a bit of pitting on it as you can see here;

I'd like to spruce them up but i'm unsure whats best and just can't make my mind up! I can't justify sounding them off for a professional refurb as it's just too much money.

My ideas so far;

Have a go at stripping the gold and re-painting the same colour myself buttt i think this may be quite a challange leaving the polished bits and getting into the corners with a can etc etc... i don't have much experience painting.

Use nitromorse to strip all the paint then laquer over the whole wheel. Would it be as easy as that or would it leave paint/nasty looking alloy be on show?

Get them powdercoated just because it's soo easy but then i will probably always regret not leaving the polished surfaces. I would powdercoat them in all gold/silver.

Orrr just sell them and buy something different, have always wanted some 14's...

hmmm... I'd like some other opinions on what to do or experiences people have had in the past trying to do similar wheels please. It might just encourage me to get on with it!

Cheers.

Thanks for the comment. I do like the look if the grey against the red, kind of reminds me of a Lego car! The simplicity of looking after a powder coated wheel appeals to me...

I'll be dropping you a pm about the 7's mate.

If I were to Re-do them i reckon I'd stick with the same colours as they go really well against the silver polo. I'm not too sure exactly what colour they are all I know is it's the original colour... If I get a colour match done I'll post it up.

Anyone done a re-paint and polish and know roughly how difficult and time consuming it is?

Cheers :)

Sound man just make me an offer
