I've recent just got an e30 318is in pretty good condition, but only the way home it developed a rather anoying issue.

Il go plant the throttle and all is well getting to the end of the rev rang pretty briskly tbh , but if i try is agian it will hit the limiter at 6k, then after that it will keep doing it over and over working its way down the rev range, it spluters and just just stays at a certian constant revs?

I've done a bit of googling but nothing shows for my issue, if i flip the the ingnition on and off while driving it will then go stright to the redline but the start the process agian?!

Thought id post in here just incase anyone new what was going on before i started join endless bmw forums :S

My guess is either going to be throttle position sensor or idle control valve. Check the connectors for both of these and give them a good clean out. The throttle body is all very easily accessible on the E30s.

If that doesn't help, you'll certainly get your answer on the E30Zone. That's the only E30 forum worth signing up on :)

is this D16RRT's e30?

I had a similar issue with an E36 318is with the M44 engine.

I found that the cam cover was leaking oil into cylinder number 4 filling that cylinder with oil.

It only did it when the engine was warm too, which I'm guessing was when the gap between the oil seal and cam cover bacame big enough for oil to pass through.

Just thought I'd mention it as the M42 and M44 have alot in common.

haha no its not dirt's, well i cured the problem for a while with new spark plugs and toping up the oil. Buts its now come back agian but accuring less ofden :S
