I like sitting in the outside lane at dead on 70, which after all is the limit (i obviously pull across if its clear) to laugh at the twats who think they can bully me in to pulling in before i'm done overtaking. Possibly. but to obtain a conviction, the prosecution has to show that the standard of driving fell well below the standard expected of a reasonably competent driver, undertaking someone (safely) on it's own i doubt it would be enough.

although tempting, i avoid tailgating or any negative interaction with other road users as it just escalates the situation making it more dangerous for both me and other road users,i just let them go.

i agree with what you're saying but the speed limit isn't a target (even though it's shaped like one) there are situations where it's not safe to drive at the limit.

i fully agree with you about the truck drivers being one myself, even though i'm limited to 52 or 56 (depending on the lorry) there's still people driving slower than me forcing me into the middle lane at which point they put their foot down or worse matches my speed so i can't get past or back in.

i don't recommend undertaking and i don't do it very often only when i see that they won't move over and have no other way of getting past so i undertake. this situation rarely arrises (maybe a few times a year) usually i'm happy with the speed and i stay behind them.

I'm going along on my merry way doing 50mph on a 60mph road with a few cars following, three at most. At point 'A' I crest a hill and take a glance in my mirror to see a T reg BMW 5-series swerving in behind me just about standing on it's front bumper, they continued to tailgate me closer than I've ever been tailgated at those speeds before and passes at point 'B'. While he was behind me I sped up to 60mph which made a bit of a bigger gap (still stupidly close), after he overtook at 'B' I kept doing 60mph and was able to keep sight of him, follow him into the town and watch him park up. He drove like that to gain what, 300 yards on me?

Oh and I'm highly certain that it was the same guy that I posted about here on page one.

BMW were let down in MK this morning whilst i was taking the nipper to nursery in the MK2.

I was driving the same as everyone else, parent mode, seemed he was in this mood too as he calmly gave way to traffic in front of me on a previous roundabout, he didn't stand out as i passed. But once he saw my car and it was like a red rag to a bull - big junction came up soon after which took two sets of traffic lights and multiple lane-changing to cross. He seemed to be a thirty-something of medium-heavy build (fat bastard) in a cheap office shirt and his BMW of choice was a black rep-special 320d.

I'd done absolutely nothing to warrant aggressive competition antics with an absolute drenching of attention-seeking, and a severely cut-up execution so bad i had to brake hard to let him cut me up at the second lights. Realizing he'd gone too far he bailed the lane anyway.

He seemed completely oblivious to the 'Little lady on board' cuddly toy hanging in the back window, and the baby seat with a toddler in it, even though she can see out the big low windows in this car. Instead it seems he just took one look at the car and decided he needed to cut it up in a caveman cock-sizing contest.

The event made me realize something - Audis are still often piloted by the snottiest drivers out there, but at least they do it with some finesse compared to the equivalent BMW driver. And the Red Bull stripes are going to have to come off pronto.

I wasn't c*nted off by a BMW, i was c*nted off by a member/supporter of BMW's customer pool. He displays their name. He shares a position with the rest of their customers as a result. They were let down by him. So were all car drivers, people who wear shirts, male drivers, people who eat too many pies etc etc but in this case the BMW aspect stands out.

It's a shame that anybody can walk into any showroom and buy any car. BMWs are generally good cars just the usual types seem to be attracted to them.

Manufacturers should make customers do a dickhead test before they let them buy their cars and only allow them certain models based on their score. That's what I would do. Which is probably why I should never own my own car company!

They presumably made the decision to overtake based on the fact they wanted to do 60mph and you were initially doing 50mph (I'm assuming NSL applies here so their expectations of 60mph are legal and resonable?). You upped your speed, but I'd have still overtaken you in that same situation. Assuming the road conditions were the same where you were doing 50 and then 60, you've shown to be inconsistent with your speed, so I'd rather proceed at my own pace. Doesn't excuse the tailgating at all though, that's a cock's trick.

The rest of the customer pool were also out c*nting people off at the same time The only way this particular BMW owner would have let his fellow customer pool down is if he hadn't driven like a dick that day What he did to you he did to fill his dickhead quota for the week.

I was doing a whole 10 under? Poor baby. I should mention that the straight which he overtook the other cars on was completely clear in the opposite direction and is more than long enough for a car like that to pass all of the cars behind me and myself no problem so something tells me that he wasn't stuck behind us doing 50mph. That's almost irrelevant anyway when you consider that at the point he went past me the entrance to the town was a whole 48 seconds away and a massive 9 seconds longer at 50mph anyway...

So yes, him wanting to do 60mph is reasonable in most cases but in this situation it was completely unnecessary and the tailgating after I increased my speed was completely unacceptable. As for my speed being inconsistent I increased it once and kept it up in which case his apparent need to do 60mph was met so the tailgating and overtaking wasn't necessary.

For reference I don't think I could see the bottom of his radiator grille before I increased my speed and I could not read his number plate after I increased it.

Don't get so worked up. 50mph in a clear and safe 60mph limit will get you a minor fault in a driving test. You're in a Mk3 Polo too, which means an indicated 50mph is more like 46mph.

It's entirely possible that before starting his overtake he estimated (badly) the number of cars he could get past safely, and targetted the gap behind your car to slot in to. The tailgating is inexcusable, and poor driving - but that's the only issue I can see here.

I don't buy the 'unnecessary overtaking' concept either. If you're doing 50 in a 60, what's to say you won't do 20 in a 30? Tailgating is shite driving, but so is getting worked up about someone wanting to overtake another car that's failing to make due progress. Would you be equally wound up by the situation if it wasn't for the tailgating?
