Off to a flying start

I need to upsize and for the first time nothing vw looked appealing, nothing after 1995 seems as well built as vdubs of old, found a 95 volvo 460 a few miles from my house and test drove it, interior feels well screwed together and drove tight as a drum even with 85k on the clock

That's delivery miles for an old Volvo, dunno why you would look at a 460 though. Get an 850 diesel, bigger, (much) better looking and gets better MPG than the 460 petrol (50MPG from a 460 TDI, 42MPG from an 850 TDI)... Or an 850 petrol for that glorious noise (but only 28 MPG).

Insurance was a bit steep on the 850's and v70's. Even more-so on the james may special 850R

Boom.

Strangely an 850 T5-R is 200 quid cheaper for me to insure than a regular 850 R. I saw a T5-R in Gul Yellow last year, I nearly creamed in my pants but it was a saloon. I would pay a bit more insurance to have this or

or
though. Wheel spin at 70mph+ lol.

your such a gay! lol do you play minecraft too? ha

I came to this thread to say "Good riddance", but Volvos are awesome so I for one will let you off

Minecraft. The most nerdy and pointless thing in the universe. My bro plays it.

If your going to get a volvo from that era you have to do it properly, you have to buy a yellow 850 t5 estate. Love those.

Meet me in the middle? lol

Nope. The 460 is hideous, it's like the 850s brother with... problems. What you really want is a 240 with an 850 T5 engine. That sound and RWD, oh and 350bhp isn't unheard of.

Yesss  I prefer the saloons.

I had a 740 briefly.

I had an S40 2.0 for about 2 weeks before I got bored of it.

They are tough old machines though, just no drama.

But I won't say no to anything with a T5 lump, hard to beat the sound of a 5 cylinder turbo!

had a 850 5 cyl, killed it the same night when the crank or cam sensor went and replacement was a silly amount, only payed £160 for it and scraped it the next day and got more

It was slow, ugly inside and out, but had heated seats and the engine did sound awsome even in non turbo guise.

The 440 was made in the same factory, in Holland, as the Mitsubishi Charisma. Neither had any.

The only Volvo ever worth having was the 340/360 1.7 and even then only in the slippery weather, thanks to it actually being a RWD Renault with a prehistoric version of the Clio Sport/Williams engine in it before it got interesting.

Yes its old but it has a safety cage - the way it leans on its leaf springs it needs it.

I've got a 340 gle saloon! So well put together (even for a non swedish volvs) love it! :) 240 torslanda will be my next one I think!

You'll be back.

I know a certain someone who's just bought a volvo, and three weeks on he wants rid.

240 torslanda

FYI the Torslanda was just a special edition to get rid of cars before the 240 was killed off, there nothing special about it other than the stripes and wheels. The only toy they have is heated seats and that's all. GLT is the one to have obviously.

My uncle has restored an Amazon 2dr GT, which he uses as a sort of daily (lives at his garage so he doesn't do a commute).

Volvo themselves got hold of him when they found out, the all original white car with red roof and interior is the rarest colour scheme, i think there's only a handful in Sweden let alone the UK.

Can't comment on the drive as i haven't driven it - but he prefers it to his concourse '66 Lotus Cortina so it can't be too bad. Cant see the twin Stromberg 1.8 being all that great in it, but still.

a mate had a T5 was rusty and ugly as hell steel wheels crap interior, but was rocking just under 300bhp. It was very reliable and only problem he had was fueling it lol.

I like the torslansa due to it's utilitarian-ness as oppsed to all the leather and electrics of the glt tbh. Plus the wheels and stripes are pretty cool!
