So those of you who have rented a garage/unit, where did you find out about it? Ideally I'm trying to find a council owned garage

Don't go council the rates are stupid. You will always pay business rates. Find private industrial estates and speak to the owners and work out a deal from there. Always cheaper. If you want a cheap unit its not that easy to find, you need to do the leg work and get speaking to people.

I'm currently only getting a few pence change out of £60 per month for my small leaky council garage. The moment my Polo is finished I'm moving on. If its urgent, and close it will do i suppose.

x2 thats why I'm giving it up the council take the piss bud have a look around local armland for a decent converted fa rm building or a barn and speak to the local farmer better to do private renting

It's only for storage, so not looking for anywhere huge. I thought council places were cheap. Farm units are too big/out of town

Depends on YOUR council the price. Bastard Guy always pipes up in these topics going on about his local council garages being less then £10 a week.

Crap space aswell, only good for a mk2 Polo and a little around it.

It's all I need. More just to store engines and larger, unused equipment like engine stands etc. Maybe the ocassional car

alot only allow it for actual car storage and some even ask for proof of insurance and tax on the car

Toby had problems with his council garage due to him storing an incomplete car in it or something and they locked it all up so he couldnt get in and he had to go sort it out with them

Haha - glad they've never seen mine, it's got about 4 sets of wheels in it and a scirocco in kit form!

Dunno if this is applicable to you but, round here there are pleanty of farmers about with empty sheds for rent and its literally like fuck all a week.

Couple of mates have got one big enough to hold 5 cars with more than enough room to work on each car comfortably. Even has power to it haha and its like £25 a month...

if the council garages are anything like the ones round here, they're crap, tiny, leak like a sieve and so easy to break into and have no power.

Confirmed yesterday that all the garages in my town were sold to some private company

Mate of mine tried to rent a private lock-up but gave up because the contract stipulated 'no inflammables' and the letting agent got arsey when he tried to clarify he intended to store tools including an argon welding gas canister and a car with petrol in the tank.
