Hi peps I need abit of help ! , I have a polo mk2 witch I lowered bout 80mm but when I turn side to side it makes a klonking and knocking noise , what do I need to do to stop it doing that ? Any help be appreciated :-)

Did you change the top mounts at the same time?

Na I didn't have any so I use the originals :/ and they don't look like they sit properly on the top :-s

jack the car up and get someone to shake the wheel from side to side feel for play on all joints also if you lift it up and down that will test your top mounts also make sure everything is tight check your drive shaft ect

Nice 1 fella , il check them all tomoz :-) , some1 said that 6n top mounts fit witch stops the knocking but I'm not shore haha , also do you know if polo 6n rear coiles will fit on a mk2 polo ?

6n top caps/cups. The bits that the retaining nut on the top of the shock bolt to. Looks like a dish that sits on top of the suspension turret

do you get a noice when you go over bumps? best checking it first chance's are it is top caps but best to check 'em

I checked it yesterday and everything's tight but if I lift the wheel up and down the top mount come out of the turret , n when I hit a bump it klonks :/

I had a similar problem years ago on my 1st mk2 and it was the nut on the strut that hold the shock insert into the strut was not tight enough so the shock was knocking up and down inside

change the top caps to 6n ones, they fit perfectly stopped top end knocking for me. also i popped a 2p in the bottom of my strut before i put the insert in then done up the top cap stupid tight. this solved all knocking noises from front end suspension. the 2ps work well as they squash a bit when in the bottom due to them being copper so you get a nice proper tight fit

Yea I did hear that 6n top caps sort it but didn't want to but some if it didn't solve the proplem or kept on doing it still , but nice 1 fella il give that a go :) cheers for the help guys :)

Few things to check really.. 2p down the strut, the big nut that holds the shock in, they can come loose.. mine was nocking like fuck and it just un threaded it self. tightened it up and it sorted that out! top mounts and the top cups look pretty nice. can be had new from vw for 12 quid a pair!

Not convinced on this 6n top cap lark

I use Punto ones, they stop the strut banging on drop but reading the opening post that isn't the problem here. Sounds more like the spring Juddering or the CV joint to me.

Well what does changing them do? Iv never looked closely.

Do the 6n ones clamp to the body where the mk3 ones don't or what?

yeah shallower nicks so sits flush with body . ( well almost ) still allows movement so theres not added stress on struts

Also they use rubber buffers, what VW were thinking when they used nylon ones I can't imagine - when nylon hits the body its always gonna be notably acoustical, even when they were new, and VW were sending them out like that for 19 years!

If you leave the mk2 cups on once lowered they sit about 10mm off of the inner wing. The banging on speed bumps drive you nuts, I will get 6n cups for mine lol

Na I haven't solved it yet fella , everything's tight , might just try 6n top caps or pinto 1s n go from there :)

Yea mine sit high in the inner wing but when I jack the car up it sits flush . But I can lift the wheel up and down and the whole top mount has a massive gap :/
