hi I think my autochoke is on the blink - doesn't run very well under 2500 rpm when cold, then drives okay idles very high while warming up.

I went to PW Europarts in Cradley to ask how much a new one would be and he said he couldn't get one..

Does anyone know where i can get one of these without just replacing the carb? Or if it's something that i could easily just fix without needing extra parts?

Carburettor Hospital might still have replacement auto-choke assembly.

Or it might just need lubricating, or the pipes to the water jacket clearing.

Does the choke flap move from closed to open.

How high revs when warming up?

2000 is not wrong.

If you stamp on the gas pedal then release does it drop?

That disengage the fast idle cam.

I'll check Carburettor Hospital if i can't sort the problem from what you suggested

I've not had a chance to have a look at choke flaps, will check.

The revs (whilst idling) climb up gradually to around 2200 rpm, and then when the temperature gauge reaches just over half, it goes down to under 1000rpm - this happens regardless of throttle (so if i stamp on the gas, it only drops back down to where it was, and if i get the revs lower by putting it in a gear at a low speed, as soon as i disengage the clutch it rises back up)

Might be an air leak then if you have not played with the idle speed screw or mixture. Warmed up idle should be around 750 to 950 and steady.

Leak is unmetered air being sucked in at base mount gasket or manifold or from a

rubber vacuum tube (or even throttle plate spindle on very old carbs) lets the engine turn faster than it should.

That might also explain why poor while warming up. Too lean.

Carb cleaner spray around outside will slow an idling engine if there's a leak.

Cold start spray (ether) will speed it up.

No change in engine note is no leak.
