alright mate i only have a 1.0L i was not asking to find a quote on my car i was wondering how much and how it works with the insurance for car with big engine conversions and stuff

thanks for your reply

all depends on everything you do i think, because you have to declare absolutely everything. its silly, and i'd say unless you are earning a packet, or over 20, you're gonna struggle to pay insurance if you tinker with engine conversions etc.

ben

From experience, I would ALWAYS declare everything!! And I mean EVERYTHING!!!

Insurance is a necessary evil and how it's calculated can sometimes be beyond belief (put G40 badges on a CL and it makes it 'more stealable' and hence commands a higher premium - make a G40 look like a CL and you won't get a penny off!! Go figure.........)

But if you don't declare everything, then you can almost guarantee that, should you have to make a claim, you'll get screwed over.

Shop around with the specialists, as they tend to know more about mods than your high street idiots (Oh what fun I had when I tried to get my old GT quoted on - trying to explain twin webbers to some dosy bint on a phone..........) some will only use a BHP figure as a guide to engine mods, some will ask for proof that it hasn't been bodged together or has had adequate safety improvements to go along with the extra power.

Bottom line is don't do it if you can't insure it. Build up some no claims on a hairdryer engine and then fill yer boots once the premiums have come down a bit................

They are absolute cack for modified cars...

I got refused by ALL companies they check with on their online search...

Norwich Union have been very good for me - everything declared

  • 2 weeks later...

tesco been good for me. and they include a 1000 quids worth of ice cover included in the policy.

e-carinsurance is the shizzle 800 quid under my dad with all mods woop woop

The kit car's the fun one. How are you supposed to answer when they ask if it's got any modifications?

Errrrrr, yes, quite a lot of modifications as it happens, it used to be a capri.

I'm lookin for insurance and ecarinsurance are very high priced. try HIC or brentacre.

As they are brokers the told me they get better rates. Try adrian flux, you will be suprised with the results.

I've told my insurance company about my alloys and lowering kit but not clear indicators and side repeaters do you think they would bother about that?

Would they bother about lights?? Well - if you made a claim, the assessor would come out and look at your car. He would probably be all matey-matey with you and ask you all sorts of things before toddling off back to write up his report. In that report he'd mention the lights you'd fitted to the car and the insurance company would then ring you and tell you you had made undeclared modifications and that your insurance was invalid..........

Like I said in my earlier post - you tell them EVERYTHING!!! Even down to stickers in the windows, different foot mats and furry bleeding dice!!

If you send them a list, then it's up to them whether they charge you any extra (prolly not for furry dice) - but once you've sent them that list, they can never argue that you've made any undeclared changes, can they!!

I agree with Keith. However, my insurers don't know that I have clear indicators - reason being mine are OEM Hella ones, so there's no reason why they couldn't have been fitted from the factory. Just like my mum's old 1.4 8v 6N had optional alloys, and was insured as a stock car - the assessor that saw the car at one point said it was fine, he'd have only been bothered if they were blatantly not OEM wheels.

Basically, if in doubt - declare it.
