Overpriced Wheels

Featured Replies

I'm in the market to buy some new wheels for my 6n2. I've been looking for about three weeks now and what amazes me is how stupid people are with their pricing. People on this site are'nt too bad but on eBay and Edition it's insane..

Example

There's a guy on Edition selling two standard Passat Winters/G60's and two that have been banded to 8' wide. No tyres. £400. I can buy a set of brand new Passat Winters/G60's on eBay for £165 and then pay £90 for the banding. I would then have exactly the same as what he's selling for £255. That's £145 less minus a cheap courier

Also, will people ever get it into their heads the reason that their wheels are'nt selling is because you're asking the same price as somebody else is only your tyres all need replacing! That's roughly £200 alone

Whilst I'm on the subject, why is'nt there set questions that need to be answered for anybody selling wheels on here? i.e the width, offset, centre bore and tread depth if tyres are included should all be entered as a required field in the advert. A location and even photos of the wheels for sale would help, not too much to ask you would think

Yep. This is something that also annoys me. No steels are worth more than £50 to me anyway, banded or not. they're just steels. I'd pay more for a set of standard G60's than a set thats been ruined with shitty bands. Then theres the advert thing. How hard is it to take a picture and write a description more than just saying 'Wheels. Offers' Then they usually get annoyed when you offer them 20p. Whenever i put a set of rims up i have a pic of every wheel and every tyre and list everything possible about them. Only takes me 30mins to take the pics and get it posted up. Some people are just ridiculously lazy.

you can probably go direct to weller and they'll make whatever the fuck you want cheaper than buying some steels and having them banded anyway, and not have shit offsets haha.

Also annoys me the fuckers who bump them everyday and say "surely someone wants a lovely set of wheels?"

They're should be some form of lock on the forum so when they post them up it doesn't allow them to post back in there until 5 days is up, unless they get a reply in which they have 1 post to reply with all relevent info

if you see them doing that click the report button and we will deal with it :)

It can work the other way though. I'd had my mint Hocks for 9yrs and really needed a change. But i wanted the wheels to look genuinely original.

I found a set of 6x13 et33 BBS RA's on the bay, still covered in brake dust. The old boy had them on a Vauxhall Nova in his yard which he was slowly parting out. He was into old british stuff and knew nothing, he expected £20 for them.

The bidding got to around £150 and i was still in it, but i was holding off until auction end to prevent it getting too competitive. The old boy bottled it thinking people were winding him up! He messaged the highest bidder and said if they sent the money to his email via paypal he'd let them have the wheels. They did, auction ended.

I messaged him livid! He explained the above to me and apologised after i said he'd wasted my time. Seriously, what's the point of an auction if you're gonna end it early? And if you're gonna sell something, get a bloody clue about it first, ffs.

i buy and sell lots of wheels and tbh i've found ebay to be the best place lately for selling them, had a set of bbs rx2s up for sale at £145 on the forums, chucked them on ebay and they sold for £180, even after fee that is still a good £20 more than I wanted for them. Works both ways, yes there are a lot of chancers trying to punt wheels for way more than they are worth, but equally there are pleanty of people who think you should give stuff away, because it is on an owners club

Hi, I've got some wheels for sale

I don't know what size they are or how wide they are, they do have tyres though. The tread is 'good'.

I'll post photos when I get chance, not sure how much £ I want so make me an offer

They're mint condition

Translated that means the tyres are almost illegal, one wheel is buckled and the rest are kerbed. You make them an offer and they kick off because it's not £1000

you forgot bump!
