So, some of you may remember me from the past.

Around 2009 i had a Black MK3 which was my first car, got written off then i went to Uni and didn't have a car for a while.

In 2011 i once again felt the need for my own wheels so bought myself a MK2 Bready, followed by another MK2 Bready and eventually a MK2 Golf (In the space of less than a year!) All of which i had to get rid of when i started my first 'proper' job after Uni.

I needed something that i could do the 50 mile commute to work in and for some strange reason a Saxo 1.4 Furio seemed to fit the bill at the time.

Here we are 9 Months later and i have had enough of the saxo's rattling plasticy interior and bodywork. So it's gone. Saturday morning i picked up my new daily:

'Meth'

It's a great base for the subtle modifications that i plan to do to it.

- Few small repairs - New electric window switch, gaiter and gear knob, bit of paint on the front bumper

- Wheels (not made up my mind yet but thinking of going with 6n2 GTI wheels)

- Lows (Coilies on a 40mmish drop as it is my daily and i want to keep some modicum of comfort!)

- GTI rear spoiler (possible to retrofit or will i need to find a tailgate? unsure at the moment but either would be ok)

- Remote central locking

- Fit my fantastic Blaupunkt head unit

and who knows what is in store for the future...we'll see!

As you can it it has a CP sticker so someone on here has owned this car in the past!

Jake, Yeah I live in Martins Heron so I drive that way to work sometimes (if M3 is bad) and go that way to get to Tesco.

One of the front trims kept trying to come away and i can't stand cable-tied trims so they're all in the boot at the moment.

So this weekend will see coil-overs and hopefully wheels.

I have a set of wheels that i bought about a week before i sold my last polo and have been used as a work bench in my dads garage since then so i will be digging them out and hoping the tyres are all ok so that I can run them straight away, if not then the steels will be staying on for a while whilst I refurb them and get them rubbered.

Been getting more ideas looking around the forum but will take things a step at a time!

Been up at my dads today and using his garage. TAs courtesy of PhilJ plus replaced all of the mounts and rubbers.

so as you can see it was necessary to replace them!

Its about an 85mm drop all around which i think is a bit low but i will see how i cope with it and might raise it up when i get some wheels sorted but this is probably how it'll sit for a few months!

85mm drop?! I was looking at a 30mm drop all round on my 6n2 but that is never going to satisfy me if that's what 85mm lower looks like! Nice base though. What other plans do you have for it?

It hasnt really had time to settle yet as I've only driven it once before i took that photo (and the car is on a kurb) will get some more pics soon.

Wanna pick up a GTI grille and rear spoiler

Wheel wise i would LOVE a set of Borbet As but they're a bit out of my price range so will try and find some other deep 5-spokes in white, cream or polished

paint work needs some work, paint chips and lacquer peel in quite a lot of places

Taken in work carpark this morning, I think its gonna have to come up, its way too low for practical daily use. The Mudguards are about 10mm from the ground and scrape on everything!

Front right steel was displaying signs of wear on inside edge from toeing in too much so will get the tracking done tomorrow whilst at work.

feel like it needs 5-10mm spacing in all corners just to get it sitting right, I'm guessing that will require longer bolts though so may have to wait until next month so i can afford both.

Next:

Paint - wing mirrors, bonnet and bumpers all need doing :(

want to get the wing mirrors matching and would actually prefer non-stubby both sides!

yeah they're off him. I absolutely love them. They're not perfect but shiny enough to live with for this summer, will give a good refurb over the winter

Wheels came off for the winter but didn't get around to refurbing them and today they got put back on with the addition of 20mm spacers on the rear. (will get some pics when light because it started to get dark by the time i finished)

Have also applied Plastidip to the wing mirros (again, photos when light)

Other bits and bobs have been done including double cup holder modification:

Removed the cup holder/coin tray from the car

Removed the coin tray section using by teasing up the 2 clips on the top that hold it in place.

Did the same on the donor set. in pic below you can see that the cup holder has been removed lightly

Then popped the donor cup holder into the empty space left by the coin tray and voila

Because the donor set didnt have face plates i have left the plain one on the 2nd cup holder.

Got a few more plans in the near future including black roof, 10mm spacers on the front

and then money permitting I would love some leather interior and a GTI spoiler

I am also considering an all-over professional Plastidip, been quoted around £400 which is less than quotes for all the paint that needs doing, only downside is that the dip is outside only so door shuts would still be red. can't decide if this is off putting enough to not get it done!

This has got to be one of the best mods I've seen practicality-wise. Brilliant!

Plastidipped Mirrors

So I have realised today that i have been a complete muppet.

After fitting the spacers, I was getting tyre scrub from the passenger side, not just on bands or bumps but pretty much constantly. this baffled me a bit because both sides are set to the same height, measured at several points around the arch (and sill) to the floor.

So I raised the passenger rear coilover by 1cm and was baffled even further when it was still happening!

So I did some research into coilover design, watched a few video tutorials (mainly yanks with 'import tuners') and learnt A LOT about how coilovers work and what sets apart different brands and designs.

Taking this new knowledge and going back to the car, is when I realised how much of a muppet I was!

When the coilovers were fitted, I moved what I thought was the height adjustment nut up the thread and it did as i expected it to do - raise the height.

so it turns out that what i was actually adjusting was the spring 'pre-load' :doh:

In this uneducated original 'set up' the rear adjustment was different and the spring pre-loads were also set differently to counteract and make level.

anyway long story short:

didn't know what I was doing a year ago....did some research....fixed it......problem solved :)

I am now running at the same ride height as I was before, but because the spring pre-loads are now even(ish) the car bounces at the same rate both sides of the car and no more scrubbing :)

Had a bit of a tidy up of the tailgate today in my lunch break

I think it looks a lot cleaner :)

Looks sweet mate. Same as mine, so easy to make 6n2's look good. I'm slowly getting there with mine :)
