£45 for some bolts jamie??? wtf!!! lol

When I was pricing G60 rod bolts up for mine they came in at something stupid like £80 from that 'cheap' vw parts trader on here. After a bit of searching found ARP ones for about £100 which are stronger and can be reused. Fuck VW and their over priced shit

Instead of buying more headbolts I managed to get hold of ARP headstuds that are reusable for £110

I also have ARP rod bolts too but they came with My rods but they aren't too expensive too buy desperately

I've seen them generally sell for around the £45 mark just need to look for the correct bolt type, thread size and length.

If that second thread has any use at all it could only really be to act as a kind of dawel for the the cap like the shoulder does on the orginal afh bolts, although I can't imagine it sitting as snug in the hole as the shoulder bit tho

i only remember my old ones being like the one Guy has pictured i dont remember any second thread on them but the BCB i recently stripped (same as ARC, AVY) I'm sure did have the 2nd thread and tbh the only reason i could see it was there was for like Guy says as a kinda dowel basically

Just looked at the AVY rods and they do indeed have the second threaded type bolt

something that was pretty apparent the first time I split one of the AVY rods, and which would explain the lack of need for an effective dawel is that the rod/cup is broken apart during manufacturing rather than cut

The jagged surface of the break positions the rod/cup perfectly so no need for the bolt to do so. I've just tried the avy bolt with the extra tread in it in the afh cup and its like throwing a sausage down a mine, I wouldn't be using that combo together in any engine I was building that's for sure.

So while I can't shed any light on what the extra thread is for, I would say it really doesn't matter and as long as you use the correct bolt for the rod it was intended to be used for you should have no problems, I.E, don't go using an AVY rod bolt in an AFH because that's all the parts place had in stock cause 'they should be the same init' they work totally differently

Aye seen that process before - cant remember what engine I had apart now mind, crack it basically and as you say it lines up spot on, all the more reason to ensure each cap goes back where it came from
