I've chercked the FAQ and there are so many different stories about the conversion.

Am i right in thinking i need the engine the ecu and key and the loom for the conversion but i can still use the 8v gearbox its a p reg 8v and i have been told that a 16v will plug straight in to this loom??? How true is this?

you can use any gearbox you want from the 6n apart from the diesel box provided the linkage type is the same.

i'm using a 1.4 8v box (DQW) on mine due to the longer ratios over the 16v box.

the looms on the other hand i have little experience with as i swapped the entire electrical system to the 16v, other than saying all the connectors look exactly the same where the engine bay loom plugs into relay board under the dash, i cannot tell you if the pinouts on the connectors will match.
