Grr!!

I live in a lovely little sea side town, quite pretty, full of pretentious moneybag idiot heads to be honest, trouble is, we have on-street parking.

So, I have a Mk3 Golf GLI, my first car, my baby. Have had him almost 2yrs and have modded and refined him in numerous ways, the last job on the list is a paint job, was off for quotes this week. Anyways, open the front door, the car has been parked up outside the house since Friday evening with my Polo engine in the boot ready for transplant (snow put us off last weekend).

Some bloody idiot has managed to scrape the bumper and the rear arch, I mean, how the hell do you manage that and just drive away?

Last week, my fellas Mk3 Cabriolet was dinked in the opposite rear arch by the local 'REVSaLOT' with a nice deep scar across the arch and some dinks and dents. Luckily, someone passing by saw it happen and reported it. Police were called, did fuck all, and the woman who hit it didn't realise she had hit it but admitted responsibility. Now we've got the hassle with her insurance company and she's being a dick and refusing to co operate. Maybe it's because she drives a Clio?

Anyways, I have ordered one of those alarms that kicks up a fuss when anything goes near, which means it's going to be going off all the time as parking is tight but hopefully it will ward people off. Other than that I don't know what the hell to do to stop having my cars damaged?

I have spent a lot of money on them all, and I'm hoping to get the Polo out of the garage next month and we're also buying a BMW. I know statistically, having 4 cars parked in a street I'm going to have one of them hit at least once but two in the same fortnight?!

Any advice on how to stop people driving like such dicks, without moving to somewhere with a drive or a garage and without sitting in my car 24/7 like some obsessed girly car freak?!

proximity alarm? other than thats youre fighting a loosing battle.

It will happen unfortunately. For some people cars are just a means of getting somewhere and scratches and dents mean nothing. They don't care about there car so they assume everyone else is the same.

We have just ordered one for my Golf.

For the CCTV idea, I can't put one up as it's on street parking and the cars are always parked in different places. If they were in the same spot every evening we would. Don't really want to have to put one in the car.

Unfortunately theres next to bugger all you can do to change how people drive around your cars. People will be careless and people couldn't give one if they damage their or other peoples cars.

Whilst a dual proximity alarm is a good idea from a security point of view, it'll do little to remind people they're about to hit a car. You'll be lucky to hear the alarm going off and catch the aftermath, rather than prevent it in the first place.

All you can really do, as has been suggested is set up some kind of cctv covering the cars and the road, so at least if someone does do a hit and run you'll have all their particulars to notify the police.

I did phone the police about the one who hit the cabrio, the police did nothing, despite the fact she drove away and didn't know she'd hit it in the first place. To be honest, I'm at the end of my tether with it all. If I could put a camera up, I would, but the way our street is laid out, we can't cover it all and can't park in a regular spot every evening

I have seen them, but only on the tele, do they do like less obvious ones? I don't want to be some super paranoid owner!!

Firstly, motion sensor alarm so you know when its been hit.

Then put spike pads at the corners on the floor - anyone gets near enough to hit it will get a flat tyre and be unable to take off..

We've all been there. Not much you can do about it, people are careless and couldnt give a crap. Someone ripped the front bumper off my last polo and scuffed it and snapped the bracket while it was parked in Tesco. I also had a scrape appear on the door of that car. And i was trying to keep it away from busy areas. Luckily my current car has managed to survive undamaged so far in my ownership. I am fortunate to have a driveway to park it on, but probabbly wont when i move out. I'm dreading the day when i have enough money to leave home and have to park on the street. I would put cones out. Would make people take a wider birth around it.
