AFH Tappets

Featured Replies

Hi there friends.

It would appear one of my lifters is about to shit itself. Tried engine flush and some lovely new mobil 1, but it's not cutting it.

Seems to be loudest under the lightest of loads, goes away (or it sounds) under what.

Started yesterday semi-intermittently and isn't there when it's cold but is when it's hot. Sounds really ticky on overrun, a mild tap on light load.

So yeah, it's one of the inlet, either cylinder 2 or 3. Would love to have a set, but 8, or 4, or even 2 or 1 would be grand.

Gonna pull them this weekend/next week when I'm off and hope it's just stuck. But it sounds like it's not compressing and just clattering around.

Pulled the rocker to see, and one seems to have a little more play than the rest, but won't know until I pull the cams out, and obviously that's a belt off job.

So yeah, if you can, hook me up, please.

x

Would even buy a head.

I know Dubownerbilco went solid. May be worth contacting him

i didnt go solid in the end and neither did Dubownerbilco he just bought all new standard ones for nearly a whopping £200 :|

sorry i cant help mate

I thought he had and it was causing major tapping. Or was that just the cam then?

No that was after he tried to refurb them he then managed to get a full new set from euro car parts

As he didnt want the running in and adjusting the solid ones every so often

Hi there.

I've a full set here from an AQH engine. All very quiet. Can post if you want.

Connor

GSF had 9 left when I asked the other week.

The AQH engine ones won't fit these are AFH specific

AQH is a V8 4 litre in the Audi A8 :?

Managed to pick up a set today, after driving for nearly 7 hours.

Fitted them, inlet only. Started back up, a little tappy, but not that bad. Went for a drive and it got pretty tappy.

Was slow off the mark, but assumed it was timing because i'd just thrown the dizzy back on.

Note here; when I adjusted the timing before I left, if turned too much, it would knock heavily, and reduce when I turned it the other day.

It got pretty noisy once the oil got hot. After a 15 minute drive, was heading home because I'd had enough and it got pretty noisy.

Was close to home, and trying to listen for knocks that would point to the bottom end.

Noted that under load, no noise and very little tapping. Under VERY VERY light load around 3k it was banging it's tits off.

Idle and light cruise (2k) is quite, ish.

Pulling into my street and took it to 3.5k, noticed a large buck and then a significant loss in power.

Now, I'm stumped.

It's making a horrendous noise which sounds like bottom end, I'm trying to convince myself it's not though.

Meh, hating on this again. How come no-one else has problems taking it to 6k?!

Just strip down and rebuild if you can mate its not as hard or as expensive a people make out

And worth it if your planning to keep the engine

It's not hard, but I'd disagree with it not being expensive. But as pete says, worth doing if you plan to keep the engine
