Looking to swap my GT engine for a G40 or G60 mainly looking at the G60 really and wanted to know what experience people have had with insurance companies regarding engine swaps and how much they might increase my premium.

A G60 isn't a straight swap like a G40 don't know if you know that

Make sure your insurers actually cover engine modifications before you buy a single thing. I bought bike carbs for my last Polo and found out afterwards that I wasn't allowed to use them.

Dont you have to tell VOSA and then get it checked out by a mechanic to pass it for safety?

Told them I'd swapped the engine and the guy had a right good chat about it, told them about all the stuff, and he was genuinely interested.

I've recommended all my mates to Sky, the service I've had has been outstanding. And yes, I'm plugging their company!

Harris_racing has pretty much covered it to death about engine swaps regarding paperwork etc. Sure it's a faq in the paperwork section.

Mm invalid insurance, plus lives lost...smells like prison/fines/bans.

If you're with a decent insurer it's easy, Brentacre have been perfect for me, phone up when I like to change things, no admin charges, just a power limit virtually. Even insured my daily with them which I can mod if I like. And polos renewal has just came through £500 less than last year.

Adam mentions sky, probably decent for him but I wasn't happy with what I was offered, try all the specialists, people rave about certain ones. But various people get an array of prices from them, flux wanted £1000 more than Brentacre and that was no power mods either! Madness.

Don't just phone one and decide all specialists are shit.

Mainstream insurers are useless and most people abuse their rules anyway. "exterior changes" or lowered up to 50mm etc.

When you're doing a mod, include the price of insurance change before committing, simple.

If you don't declare it then fair enought, but keep it to yourself and dont be stupid and post it on a forum where you have your reg number showing.

My car hasn't had an engine conversion it's a 1.0 4 speed haha, I was only joking! If I was to put an engine in it I'd swap insurers. Hence why I am selling my car as a 1.0 with a gt engine as a replacement lump.

It's gay, I pay double the tax going from a 1.3 to a 1.6, it was effort but it's legit, a ball ache for them to get extra money; doesn't do them any favours lol.
