after convoying to shows and meets and stuff I've realized my car is too quiet (I'm 17 so louder the better to a point) feel free to complain :L

I'm really tempted to go for a cherry bomb center box or straight pipe in the center as i have a sportex back-box which should dim the sound down a bit,

ideally i would want something that wouldnt be stupidly sound when just pootering about.

just after a bit more loud.

not to worried about MOT or Police

a few of my mates have straights to a back box-type systems and there 25+ and not too loud

plus my 1.3gt on b'carbs is going in soo so will beef it up a bit

opinions? or are there any other systems that are suggestible?

i have a 6n2 1.4 16v with stainless manifold - back box with nothing in between! its loud, but not as loud as my brothers integra with the same setup!

I think the bore size is what you need to look at, as if the sound is more boomier (if thats a word) it drones alot more, where as raspy is easier to live with!

If i was you . 1.75" straight through pipe to the a back box on the bigger side, Wont be piss you off but be the noise there when you give it some ..

Mine's 2" to biggest back box what coud be fitted in space at rear.. not to loud but rather raspy , sure someone can back me up lol

i was literally going to either weld a cherrybomb inbetween (to count as a scilencer and possibly to add sound) or just a bit of pipe but was told this can make you loose back pressure - thus loosing power?

Naa think 1.5 more or less,

1.75 is about the rite size for the engine and rite size for exhaust flow etc..

I had a 3" straight through and 3" back box on my 1.4 8v... It was kinda loud

I'm currently driving a BMW 328i with effectively no silencing at all.

It has straight pipes from the manifolds merging into 1 big pipe straight to the backbox which is hollow. It's loud but being a 6pot sounds the tits.

The thing is VW didn't put as much sound deadening into Polos as BMW put in their cars, so having straight pipes could end up giving you a sore head on a long run

If running bike carbs, you will want a quiet exhaust. For the same reason as you won't want to turn the stereo on. Loud exhausts don't sound anything like as good as the carbs, so they ruin it. When the carbs are uninterrupted they sound fantastic.

I have this problem at the moment. I miss how mine used to sound, currently got a raspy rear box ruining it. Gonna put a quiet one on at the next opportunity, anything will do as long as its gonna be quiet and let me enjoy that lovely induction howl fully once again.

okay well I'm pretty sure the sportex is technically a silencer as would be the cherrybomb if i got one, difference is the cherrybomb wont limit as much noise as the standard center box silencer

This is what I was told by a company that supplies standard exhuasts on Ebay for 16v 6n. standard pipe size which equates approx 1.7inch and 1.8inch flange diameter.

Mine's a straight through to the backbox, sounds the tits. And you want to hear the noise of the carbs, not the drone of a backbox.

Pootering around mine sounds totally standard, normal amount of stares from passers by.

But open the taps and jesus, it's like I've just opened 10 acres of hell.

just measure the outside diamater of the centre pipe either side of the silencer and then order some pipe with that as the inner diamater. cut two slits on either end and camp it on!

I miss the sound of mine :( the carbs and exhaust note went perfect together :(:(

just fitted a full stainless steel system on mine. even has a middle silencer. and at 3/4 throttle it reads 95DB.... its pretty fooken loud.

I don't know who this is, but i've put this clip up once before. The reason i like it is because it, just about, captures that little muscle car essence. Yes the exhaust pops a bit, and he must be transporting bolts in biscuit tins for all the rattling going on, but it ain't no jap can and see through the quality it could almost be a clip from low budget remake of legendary car film Vanishing Point.

And that's what i miss since binning off the quiet exhaust i ran on the 1.6 8v. That was pure soundtrack, the carbs have never sounded as aggressive on the 16v's and with the stage to themselves it really did make you feel like you were in a '60s U.S car chase everytime you drove to work.

The video was taken inside the car too, where it matters..
