6n2 gti anti roll bar

Featured Replies

Hi everyone,

I've got a polo 6n2 fitted with a 18mm thick front antiroll bar,

Is a polo gti one thicker? How thick are the gti ones?

Any advantage to having a thicker front antiroll bar?

Cheers adam

I dont believe that they are thicker! have just removed mine to go lower, and don't feel any difference in handling (running stretch and lows means I'm not karting it round corners) but it still feels nice and flat.

Probably because of your lowered roll centre & stiffer springs you still get a decent level of roll stiffness.

There are various methods of tuning suspension/chassis on cars, depends what you want it to do differently? a thicker ARB will effect it yes.

Basically I want to reduce front suspension dive into corners

Gti roll bar is 22mm. I've bought it new from vw £65+VAT.

I've fitted mine to my 6N CL and car feels like it is on rails. Not sure if you know but 6N polos appart from 16V and diesels (don't take my word for it) newer were fitted with anti roll bars. So as such I took it as a precaution and fitted a rear beam from a 6N 16V along with polly bushes.

Now, whether it makes a difference between 18mm and 22mm, I can not tell you as I have newer had a polo before this one. I would imagine it does make a difference as there is less of a rubber bush within drop link, means less flex in the rubber equals to a stiffer suspension. If you are going for polly bushes it will make even stiffer.

If you do decide to go ahead with it, you'll need to get new drop links £22+vat per side from VW. And new chassis to bar bushes all in 22mm. When I bought mine, I got all the components from VW, bolts nuts, retaining plates etc. appart from chassis to bar bushes and drop links to wishbone bushes as I have used polly bushes. All together it was £131.00 including VAT.

Hope this helps.

Of course there's a difference between the two bars or VW wouldn't manufacture two, it will take more force to twist the 22mm bar than the 18, in simple terms more roll stiffness

Definately fit the gti roll bar made a huge difference on my old car, swapping the rear axel with the inbuilt roll bar and brakes is a good move too if you have the cash and inclination, not sure if you can just fit the rear roll bar on its own but worth looking into.

Cant stress enough how much of a good mod the roll bars are
