I work part time for a charitable radio station and they were having problems with a newish windows 7 laptop which looked like the browser had been hacked by snap-do.com. I took it home and managed to remove the problem browser and reinstalled chrome.

I then noticed I could not get onto the radio website and none of the other laptops in the house can get on using chrome. I called a friend who was able to so I assume its something to do with my router and also assume the corrupted laptop has caused this issue. Interestingly when we try to connect to the radio website through explorer there is one laptop which comes back with worldsocialsurvey.com ?

Restarting the router has not resolved the issue either. We can access the internet fine otherwise ?

Any help very much appreciated as I am trying to resolve this otherwise we are going to have to bring in the experts and quite frankly we dont have the funds currently.

Sounds like some kind of spyware or worm.

Your best bet is to check the search settings to see if they've been changed from the original google search.

Settings - Search settings

You could also run your anti-virus to check to see if you have any kind of viruses.

Then open start - Search - Programs and Features - (check to see if any toolbars have been installed and uninstall them)

If you do come up with anything major in the virus scan either try restoring to a previous restore point or reinstalling windows from a backup. If you have a later model laptops such as HP there should be an option in the BIOS.

It may also be a compatibility problem with how the sites HTML in programmed, you could always try IE in compatibility mode or my recommendation would be to download firefox and use that instead. I've used it for around 7 years and I've always found it to be the most reliable.

Thanks for replying burge but I managed to fix it in the end. I cleared off alsorts of viruses & malware. The reason we couldnt get onto the website is because it was blocking my IP address. I'm not qualified enough to know what happened but I can only assume removing the malware/virus from the PC triggered something and my IP was blocked. Would be interested to know why this happened though ?

only thing I can think of which caused your IP to be blocked is one of the viruses could have tried to launch a DoS (Denial of Service) attack against the website, from your machine, so in order to stop their website from crashing out, your IP was banned as that's where the attack was launched from

The idea with a DoS attack is that you overload the server so it can't process any requests and just crashes, therefore, Denying Service to the users...
