right I'm removing my windows as I'm going to paint the car anyone got any tips on doing this

will my rubbers survive being removed there in good condition?

where can I get more if I break any?

You'll break a window before you break a seal.

It's just a case of being patient and slowly working your way around the window seal, lifting it over the metal lips on the car until tthe seal is completely un-seated from them. The windscreen might require a friend to put his feet on the inside of the glass and apply pressure whilst you 'unhook' the seal.

Door glass is relatively straight forward:

• Remove the doorcards, and peel back the weather-proofing membrane.

Roll down the window.

Remove the inner and outter window scraper seals that are at the bottom of the window.

Undo the philips head screw on the top of the door frame.

Undo the 10mm headed bolt that holds the quarter light divider bar to the door (uncovered by removal of the door membrane).

Pull the quarter light dividing bar towards the back of the door. This will then allow you to pull the quarter light glass back in the same manner as the dividing bar.

Roll the window up so you can access the 2 10mm bolts that hold the glass to the regulator. Undo these and with the scraper seals and quarter light window and divider removed you should be able to angle the glass in such a way you can remove it from the door.

youd have to make a silly mistake to bust one ...take your time and ease the rubber over

I've always used fingertips, in and out, but never done the windscreen.

Though i didn't take the windscreen out when i resprayed it, just raised the seal away from the frame with wire so i could spray underneath the seal.

windscreen rubbers can be purchased for not much money (http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8712.0.html) so if you are worried you can always cut the rubber. And I think new rear rubbers can be got from VW classic for about £40 (I would make sure you can get it first and have it in your hand) So if you are worried just just them. Plus the new rubber will look better! :)

I popped my rear windows out yesterday in my mk2 saloon I pulled the rubbed at the top corner near the floor and out a flat head screw driver behind the rubber and eased it carefully until the rubber popped out and then carried on around the end and it evenutally came loose and just lifted the window out
