A few updates :)

With the speaker pods the cables have always ran across the door gap. I know the neatest solution is to drill a couple of holes but its not something I really want to do. So the wife made these for me :)

Things left to do.

Need to adjust 5th on the gearbox

Sort out the 256mm brakes

Sort out suspension thinking of going for the H&R 60/40 cup kit

and stop thinking about swapping the interior again!! :)

Truely awesome mate.

Everything is top notch, you should be proud :)

Nothing worse than cold speaker cables - good to see they're toasty for winter!

Nothing too much to report. Just trying to get some miles on her now to properly run the engine in.

Did a trip down to London on a Friday afternoon and apart from alternator falling off no major problems. She coped with heavy London traffic with ease which I'm happy about.

Slowly getting use to the G40 (ATV) gearbox but I'm surprised how much it has changed the characteristic of the car. Not too sure I like it yet and might change back to the shorter ration box but there is no getting away that it is much better on motorways.

I have noticed the coolant temperature is higher than normal. It sits at about 5/8 to 6/8 rather than at the 1/2 way mark. I'm just wondering if that's too much or if that's what the engine is suppose to be sitting at? I did fit a AFH thermostat when the engine was built and it is opening as the radiator does get hot and the fan come on. But I am planning to uprate the radiator and cooling fan to something a bit more substantial. Also as the AVY/ARC engine (1.6 GTI) came fitted with an oil cooler as standard I am going to be re/retro fitting an oil cooler to the engine. The whole idea is to make sure the car can run in a climate much hotter than it is here! :)

I have had another exhaust fitted though.

The 2 silencers are noticeably bigger than the ones that where fitted. This has quietened it down quite a bit meaning most of the time its the induction noise you can here with the exhaust note coming in when you take it past 5k RPM.

Amazing stuff as usual!

What size radiator is on it at the minute mark? And I cant remember if you have a wideband fitted? Any idea what the AFR is on idle?

I ask because something like changing the exhaust system can drastically effect it, the G went from idling at 13-14:1 on idle with a standard-ish exhaust system, to 17-18:1 (Struggling) when it had its cat-back SS system fitted.

For the short time it was left like this it ran considerably hotter, until I opened up the pilot screws a fraction.

Cheer Max,

I'm not too sure but it’s a standard mk2 one and I think it’s a narrow version. No Wideband fitted.

It’s been like it since I fitted the new engine and I've had 2 exhausts on it. It will tick over stationary and sitting in stationary traffic without problem, never overheating and the fan cuts in when it needs to. It hasn't caused any negative effect that I can see it’s just the gauge is higher than it probably would be in a normal mk2. What I don’t know is if these engines are supposed to run hotter and without a gauge with numbers on it I don’t really know what the temperature is!

I do have oil temp and pressure gauges that I've been meaning to fit for ages so perhaps I just get my ass into gear and get them sorted. Want to fab up a nice pod for them first though.. Christmas project maybe.. together with replacing the alternator, putting the 256 brakes on the front, fitting the H&R kit and adjusting 5th gear! :help:

More power = more heat :)

Suppose so... :)

Done a little bit of digging of what temperature the thermostats (should) open at:

2G: 87c
AFH: 84c

AVY: 80c

I'm pretty sure I have an AFH stat (as it came already fitted to an AFH thermostat housing) and on one from Euro Car Parts states it opens at 87c. So I might see if if the AVY stat one fits in :)

I have gone for the 80c in my mk2 G as it will be running a bit hotter (1341) and will have a smaller rad.

Need to adjust 5th gear in my ATV box so I thought I would replace the end cap and rubber seal. The one thats on I did a really rubbish paint job on so hopefully this will make it look a bit nicer! :)

IMG_20141220_134830.jpg

I would bin the ECP stat and get a genuine one, after having two of them fail this year and one was faulty before I fitted it !!

Yeah I was thinking that to be honest.. will get a VW one :)
