Hello!

I'am 26years old Volvo Truck Mechanic from Finland. (Sorry for my bad english. It ain't my native language)

I've just got my first Polo.

I am going to do some work on it.

It's allready been done some. 1.3litre engine swap, full respray, cutted springs and ordered new wheels.

Engine is stock as far as I know, did not open it when swapped. I think it is an HH engine (60hp).

Here in Finland these polos are quite rare, I haven't seen another one in my life I think.

And parts are really difficult to find.

I envy you british for the amount of used parts you have for these.

I only have one picture at my computer but I upload more when this god damn raining stops.

This is my daily shitter.

and these are the rims I ordered. 13x6 ET 10 and there is going to be 135-70-13 tyre on them.

Meantime the Polo is runnig on 13inc golden mangels, but the ET is so wrong that I got bad time rubbing.

Looks good mate. Love the colour

It looks great! I just dont like the green headlights! I dont think it matches the clean look the car has!

  • Author

Dont worry Joe. Its only vinyl. The moment it starts to bug me I take them off.

Loved the old wheels and I like the colour. Any reason you've put such skinny tyres on though? Practical or cosmetic? You also have the super-rare wing mirrors too. Nice

  • Author

Prankstar, tires are skinny because the ET of the wheels is 10. Needed to sctrech the rubber to get em fit.

My mirrors are what?

Edited by JaniV

Ah right. They are very thin

The wing mirrors that are fitted were only available for a very short time. In fact I have only ever seen them on my own car, and a single one on ebay

And now mine? Do you know what time period these mirrors were available?

tyres 135-70-13

I have no idea. Mine is an '83 and i suspect the mirrors were not fitted to later cars. So 82-83 maybe?

liking this dude!! deffo needs some wider tyres though, i reckon you could get away with some 165's on the front, would be tight though

Deleted rear wiper :)

Yes. And tinted the rewerselight. Now its red.

Installed steeringwheel from -91 Audi 80.

The spoors were right. Only thing I needed to do is swap the indicatorrelease ring from the old wheel. It fitted right ob the Audi wheel.

Pics tomorrow.

Better without the green lights?

Also photo of Audi wheel.

Also I turned both bumpers black again. I did it with a heatblower. Also did put some BumperBlack to mask, and I taped the Vw logo with a CarbonFibre tape.

And I rolled the rear arches with a Makita anglegrinder and an ballpoint hammer. No paint cracks.

Any comments?

Saab floor mats  Did you add the white to the little vent control thing? I've not seen that before. I like the little antenna on the side too, must have had a car phone at some point in it's life, I imagine it was a hefty bit of kit!

Is it just me seeing things or are the pedals in LHD MK2s really far over to the right hand side?

  • Author

Mats are From my other car. (Selling it though) Saab 9-3 Sport Sedan Aero

No. All white colors are stock.

The little antenna is my Fm radio antenna. Not an car phone.

And no youre not seeing things. The pedals actually are very much offline with the steeringwheel. Far right. You must drive these with an angle. :D

Too bad the Saab isn't a wagon. Saab estates <3 They must be an early/LHD thing, my late MK2 didn't have the white parts. Oh I see, no radio from the factory, whoever bought it new was a cheapskate!

The pedal position might have something to do with the brake servo being fitted, that might explain why RHD ones don't have them fitted as there is no room for the pedals to move to the right.

  • Author

No. I dont have brake servo in this. Its 1.1 from factory so it comes without.

I am going to put one in though. Brakes are just awful right now.

  • Author

Oh. I just understanded what you meant by that servocomment. You mean that uk models dont have servos cos there aint room to moce pedals to right.

Am I right?

Sorry for being simple. But I dont speak english so my spelling and grammar shit is little rusty. :D

Yeah, RHD Polos (and other VWs of the same period) didn't come with any assistance to the brakes, it'll all in your right leg over here. Oh and the headlamp switches in LHD ones are upside down for some reason. Don't worry, your spelling and grammar is better than a lot of people who come from here.

Matt, the white on the vent is factory, I had them on the saloon
