Learning to remap digifant, who can help?

Featured Replies

I'm keen to learn to remap my polo gt which is currently running a fahrvernugen tuning 8k chip which is a good start but feel that the maps could be more aggressive given the spec of the engine.

Engine spec:

Full stainless system 4-2-1 manifold 2" straight through single silencer with cat removed

Schrick 268/268 cam (no vernier pulley yet but on the wish list!)

Casting marks removed from inlet manifold

And a choice of induction set ups:

1. Standard Airbox and AFM (kept unmolested as a calibrated base set up but does cause running issues on warm up cycle)

2. Standard airbox modified to fit GTI AFM

3. Pipercross cone filter with GTI AFM

Only ever run on high octane fuel mainly v power or momentum so should have room to run some more ignition advance :)

So far I have invested in an eprom reader and borrowing a copy of winols and tunerpro. I am aware that its going to be a long learning progress but I fancy a challenge. If there is anyone on here that can help I would greatly appreciate it!

PS Please dont be forum bum and suggest buying an off the shelf chip, that is not what I'm trying to achieve here.

Buy an EPROM emulator, it'll save you weeks of time.

fahrvernugen chips do have space for a more aggressive maps, when he made the chips the tuning was to a map that had little or no chance of causing damage to a healthy engine, they also allowed for the variation in engine builds and mods out there.

Did anyone else actually make proper chips for the Digifant/monotronic ECU?

Use bigger injectors so you can up the fuelling, ain't GT at maximum duty cycle standard?

Have you been on ecuconnections? a bit of info on remapping digifant on there, mosltly based on g60 stuff, although it wasnt too hard to make a xdf on tunerpro to be able to play with g40 digifant,

Digifant is pretty basic so with the tools youve got now it shouldnt be too hard i dont think to find the timing and fuels maps, as andy says though you would benefit from a emulator, think youd need a ostrich 2.0 emulator. You can also get a little device which sits beneath the chip to allow live mapping, from a company called grautec iirc. There is also a possibility for switchable maps too with digifant

You'll only really gain anything over a generic chip if you've made huge modifications to the engine, or bolted the injection setup onto a different bottom end.

Bosch Mono-motronic and VW Digifant are two different things. The former is a family of single-point injection ECUs used on various makes/models, the latter is a VAG-specific family of multipoint injection ECUs with many variants.

Fahrvergnügen Tuning did maps for the SPI cars with Mono-motronic as well as the MPI Polo GT Digifant. Polo-PP also still do GT Digifant chips, and back in the day the likes of AMD and Superchips offered maps for the Polo GT too.

They're 150cc/min stock if memory serves, so good for around 120bhp before you'd need to change them.

I have been all over ecu connections and found allot of useful info. I now have the fuel, ignition and load tables. On standard gt the injectors get close to max duty when cranking 81%

I have tried out a few different maps with positive results by changing the fueling/advance on the top end though would like some more guidance on whats best for the 268 cam.

Yep still ideally need to get an eprom emulator but dont really have the funds to spare at the moment. Also need to get an obd diagnostics cable to try log some data or failing that a stand alone data logger.

Will just share a few ideas that have been floating round in my head:

I tried some saxo vts injectors 225cc (obviously way overkill) with the fuel maps turned down to suit but being 16v injectors the spray pattern was far from ideal so returned back to stock. I am still looking for some more modern injectors which could potentially give better atomization.

Also want to try a MAF conversion by finding a suitable maf with correct output + editing the load charts as it has been popular with porsche owners with motronic ecu's and vane type afm's. Not expecting much if any power gain but should see better throttle response.

ITB's

I know this has been tried before by using a plenum etc However could anyone shed some light on how the ecu runs with a AFM unplugged? If this could be mapped to some extent?

Quick bump for this. Has anyone got the gear they want to sell, or can anyone give me a shopping list of what i need? Cheers.
