Car insurance ?

Featured Replies

I have a polo 9n 1.2 and I look for quotes every week my normal quote is £5000+. This is with no modifications listed and me as main driver, I have been told many times that it is because I am a vehicle technician ??? I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar problem and found a solution e.g a cheap insurance company. Also me being a name driver on a parents insurance is not a option as I drive to work everyday :) any help would be much appreciated thanks

Do you have your parents on your policy?

Occupation is part of the risk profile but will not be the sole reason for a quotation of £5000+.

17 and just passed your test?

Sky Insurance

Try changing your job title

Keep it something that is still close to what you do just rephrase it basically

And see how the quotes vary

Put every Tom dick and Harry that's got no claims as named drivers

I have added named drivers and they don't seem to make a difference :/ I've also tried changing my job to vehicle repairer and it didn't change :/ I have put in a quote form for sky insurance but I'm waiting for a call back hopefully they give me a reasonable price

How old are you? Whats your NCB? Have you got any convictions?

My advice is bite the bullet for the first year (i went a few years on a named driver which didnt go down at all, then paid for full comp and halved the next year).

If you cant afford it, get another car.

I'm 17 with no convictions , my insurance quote drops when I turn 18 but it's just annoying me having a car on my drive not being able to drive it for 5 months if I got a quote for £1800 I would pay that monthly and cancel when I'm 18 but I can't find anything :/

Car may be too new. Other than that look at getting a tracking box doodad fitted.

I've looked At black box insurance but I would be worried ill do one thing wrong and then that stays on my record 5 years which everyone makes mistakes and I'm probably gonna :/

Dont think they can convict you from the data collected. If thats what you mean. They just look when you use your car, how fast you go, cornering forces, braking forces, acceleration etc.

I've been told it is not solid evidence for a conviction but someone said to me if they take a reading of me speeding and going around corners too fast then it will increase my renewal premium ?? Is that true

Yes, as it uses that and calculates risk. It takes an average.

Named drivers will help the older the better.

Does anyone know if sky insurance is good as I'm going to get a call back off them sometime :)

Hey Bud,.....

I've got a 1993 Polo Boulevard..... I got insurance on the day i passed my test (aged 17 and 4 months) and it was £920.

Try adding parents, or anyone with no claims...... changing job title......, putting value of car lower...... putting annual mileage lower....

Ring up the companies direct rather than doing it online..... HOPE THIS HELPS

So lying about your job and mileage, basically invalidating your insurance then,

Don't take that advice.

Lowering the value of the car as mentioned can actually increase the insurance premiums on the car type and car age, rather than add savings.

don't blag on the cars value

If the OP is still interested I've got 1.4se polo 6n2 insured for £1300 with CO-OP black box. It's not bad you don't have to drive like a elderly person constantly just drive like you would normally.

I work in a broker myself, main things are location to your home address, where's it's kept over night, year of make of the vehicle and if you deal with cars and drive them for your work that makes a high risk, it's all poop until you have that one year NCB, always deal with direct insurers and haggle your way into discounts because I think we all know that can be done.. Brokers aren't very good at all.

Its madness sometimes, year before last my friend bought back his Subaru he'd previously owned, getting quotes for that, it was CHEAPER to insure it, parked on the road with no alarm/immob, than in his garage with an alarm/immob.

Now I dont know why that is, unless becuase they dont want to also pay for a garage being broken into etc or what

I believe the theory is that garage gives a thief the ability to work quietly and unnoticed to nick it whilst you're on holiday or whatever. On the road and other people are likely to notice any funny goings on too.

Nighttime location: just outside Buckingham palace

Was on news other day. Insurance prices down just by just under 10%. This is caused by the crack down on fraudsters/insurance scammers. Premiums are still high but if the trend continues within 5 years insurance cost could be halved.

The increase in insurance, especially in London caused by the con-men and women of this world. The gutters.
